Has anyone heard of or actually given lysine to their kitties?

Star seemed to be sneezing a bit less, and now, within the last few days, she is sneezing harder (if you know what I mean), (and I hate this, because there is nothing I can do to help her) although there is no discharge from the eyes or nose, and her behaviour/appetite is perfectly normal. So, we are not going to go ahead with the next vaccinations until the sneezing has stopped. I am grateful that Diablo is okay and not sneezing himself.

My vet says he recommends putting her on lysine, and I will, but was just wondering if any of you have heard of it, or actually treated your babies with it?

I really appreciate your feedback and opinions.

Yes, Blondie had issues with itchy red eyes her first year. The vet prescribed lysine along with eye drops. She eventually grew out of it and I never knew what caused her red itchy eyes.

Thanks for letting me know. I am assuming Star will always have to take Lysine if this is in fact herpes?

I give the outdoor kitty lysine twice a day for his immune system. His eyes water and get crusted over and this has helped him. The brand I have is Viralys and I purchase it through Chewy. They have two sizes, but I get the smaller one for around $21. It should last 100 days. I sprinkle it over the wet food in the morning and again in the afternoon. It has a little "spoon" inside and it doesn't hold a whole lot. Just make sure the produce is for cats.

They didn't see any lesions on Blondie's eyes. I think the Lysine was given a precaution since we couldn't pin point what was irritating them.

Years ago I had a siamese that had herpes in his eyes. It was not good. But I took him to a eye specialist and he got drop and it went into remission thankfully.

I responded to your other post, but I mentioned Lysine. It can be purchased through any online pet store and is not that expensive (at least I don't think so). I sprinkle it on the food in the morning and the afternoon. It can take months to see a difference, though. It is not instanteous. It also boosts the immune system of the cat.

I periodically give the lysine chews that you can buy at various pet stores, just put them in with regular treats or food. I've tried bigger doses when one of the cats gets a cold, but really can't tell if it helps or not.

I need to check out the lysine chews. They sound better than the powder.

Yes, Sherry, the chews were so easy! BTW, once Star finished with the antibiotic treatment (it seemed to go on forever!) I am happy to say it worked! She hardly sneezes at all anymore!

I read some reviews on the chews -- but I need to read more.

For one of my cats, I saw a visible difference after giving her the chews regularly, but she has a history of malnutrition. Her fur is thick and pretty now.
