That Petfinder article about the Dalmatians is very sad... Because it's so true. People just DON'T think about the animals' well-being in these cases. All the the puppymills and back yard breeders see is money, and all the uneducated/impulse-buy owners see is a cute puppy. No one is actually thinking about the dogs themselves, it's a shame.
Also, on that second link, I'm surprised Pit Bulls (aka "American Pit Bull Terriers") didn't make it on the list... Although I guess maybe they wouldn't, since I'm sure a lot of people who breed Pits probably don't bother registering them..? In my opinion though, Pit Bulls seem to be THE most over-bred dog of all. Seems like 80-90% of the dogs in shelters here are Pits, and that includes the shelter I work at, which is probably closer to 95%. And it's ridiculous, because despite having SO MANY Pits in the shelters here, you'll constantly still see signs and advertisements all over of people selling Pit puppies... Even in the clinic part of our shelter, I see half a dozen clients with new Pit Bull puppies (clearly bought, not adopted) come in each week... The amount to which these dogs are being over-bred is unbelievable. And they are generally so disliked, how does this even continue to go on?
This world sure is messed up.
