Killua is 4.5 months old, we took him home earlier this week on the 24th. He's adapted extremely well to his new environment and to myself and my boyfriend, he's super playful, active, full of energy, nothing wrong in that sense. He's a VERY brave kitten. He even challenges Roomba. Roomba usually wins, but it doesn't stop him from trying to be curious.

Last night though, he was sleeping with us, under our blanket, and I woke to him moving around a bunch. I've had cats in the past, and he was doing that cat thing cats do before they puke. I quickly moved him to the floor (because I'd rather him puke there than on my bed) and.. he puked. It wasn't a lot, it was mostly like.. spit? After that, he ran around for a while then got back in bed with us and went to sleep.

Everything this morning was fine. He ate normally, doing the normal things he normally does.. but about 10 mintues ago, I was snoozing on the couch.. Killua joined me. About 10 minutes of snooze, he gets up, sits, does this awful meow.. he knew what was coming. Again, puke. No food in it, just.. spit maybe.. and on my brand new ottoman :( I tried to get him to aim for the blanket, since I was gonna wash it anyway. Nope. Right on my new ottoman. Then he continued to just run around and start playing with his toys. I'm not sure what his problem is, I'm honestly just assuming maybe he's not eating enough.. which I think he's is, he's eating about 3/4 cup of dry food gradually the entire day and I'll give him about a spoon full of wet food in the morning and/or the evening. The foods he's being given are foods the breeder was giving him, I changed nothing as far as his diet. I refilled his food bowl just now in case maybe he's just having an upset stomach from not eating, but he's not even touching it. I keep the apartment very clean, there's nothing that he could have eaten out of the ordinary. Not sure..

Other than that, he's a completely hyper, energetic kitten. This happen to anyone else?

Vomiting cats is a little tricky, because zooking (i.e., vomiting) is a pretty common and even necessary biological function for cats to get rid of hairballs etc. When my previous generation of cats would enjoy their outdoor time in the fenced off backyard, and the first thing they would do when let out, is head straight for the grass/weeds, *chew chew chew* and then throw up. It was interesting because it was obviously such a calculated and intentional act that seemed to give them some sort of relief, even though it's a bit painful to watch your cats hacking like that.

Also that cat grass that you can buy in pet stores also frequently makes cats zook, I think it's actually the main purpose for it. BUT, that doesn't mean that every time they throw up it's a good thing, or that there is nothing to worry about.

There could very well be a correlation between him not eating and him throwing up, but my guess it's the other way around... he's not eating because he's not feeling well, rather than not feeling well because he's not eating. But anyway...

1. Do you have plants in the house? If so, are they cat safe?
2. Did you do any serious house cleaning that could have correlated to the time when he started throwing up? Is it possible he could have run across a floor or counter or something that had some cleaner on it? That can also make cats sick in a hurry.

I'm slightly confused by your post as to whether he's eating right now or not. When was the last time he ate a "normal" amount in a meal? If he hasn't been eating for a day or so and that is also coupled with throwing up, then yea, I'd get him to a vet. It could also be a foreign object that he swallowed.

If it's hasn't been that long since he's eaten, then try some "jackpot" food and see if you can get him eating. Some chicken or turkey or something like that is always good to do an "appetite check". If your cat is passing up foods that he REALLY loves, then yea, might be time to hit the panic button.

Vomiting is something you want to take seriously. Cats, just like humans, don't enjoy the sensation and most will stop eating because they believe that is causing them to vomit and their appetite is diminished. I would suggest you watch him for 24 hours and if he continues to vomit, a visit to the vet is necessary. They can give you medication to prevent the "nausea" that can cause the vomiting. My Raiden was vomiting up to 5 times a day before we were diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Medication has helped with that and the vomiting has stopped. He still wants to nibble on grass outside on our walks and will throw that back up, but that's it. Make sure your baby is drinking plenty of water and if he refuses to eat ... get him to the vet within 48 hours. Hopefully, this is nothing and it has stopped. Thankfully, they do give you a little warning and you can prepare, but when you place something under their head to catch it, they back up and totally miss it. Been there, done that. Do keep us informed.

Sounds like he is an energetic little thing and maybe all that hyper activity after eating will cause the vomiting. Interesting that he is not vomiting the food back up. All new little kitties need to be checked out by a vet just to make sure all is okay, answer your questions, and start a medical record on your baby. Vomiting even twice a day is not normal. That's the one thing the internal medicine vet told me. Occasionally, yes, but daily is even abnormal. Thus, your vet may give you some guidance or medication to try and solve this.
