Hi everyone!

This forum has been great for gathering advice and tips with our new four month old male Bengal kitten Miko. I was hoping to get some experienced eyes on this before we run off to the vet.

A few days ago his upper lip started to look dirty, like he had discharge from his nose or stuck his nose in something. He had some black bits that would come off but we couldn't clean it away. We decided to wait it out for a few days and see. It's been about five days and I've attached some pictures of what it looks like. In general light it just looks dark but under light or from underneath it looks more pinky and kind of shiny.

I don't know if it's related at all, but at 14 weeks we were told he has a grade three heart murmur.

Since it's not improved we will probably get him to a vet, but just wanted some secondary opinions.

Any ideas appreciated thanks!

I'm no expert and it's difficult to see in the photos, but I wonder if it could be cat acne?

We here are definitely not experts. Your vet is! I would have no idea what this could be.

Thanks everyone! We got him to the vet yesterday, she wasn't too sure on what it is but she was unconcerned about it for now and just to keep an eye if it gets worse.

I'll look into cat acne though thanks!

Plastic food bowls can cause cat acne, so if you're not already using ceramic or stainless steel bowls, you should switch - it might help.
