Hi I have a 7 yr old Bengal and she has had a history of seizures for the last 2 years, she is currently on Phenobarbital and I am thinking about switching her over to CBD OIL, does anyone have any suggestions on this?

I am so sorry your cat is having seizures. Naturally, I would discuss using any other type of product with your vet and do extensive online research. I personally have had no experience with this product.

A forum such as this one is a good place to ask questions. Hopefully, if a member is using this product, they will post about it.

My bengal kitty Gaga has seizures as well. I had a series of visits to the vet, the emergency vet, and a specialist. She was on Phenobarbital for over a year. It made her dopey, and miserable, and made her resent me for giving it to her. I finally concluded that being on phenobarbital, in her case, didn't decrease the rate of seizures, nor their severity, but through observation and experimentation I was able to reduce both just through some environment and behavior changes. So I went to a new vet, discussed it with them, and they perscriped diazapam, but only when she does have a seizure.

She's pretty well controlled now. She has a pretty minor seizure every 2-3 months, which usually lasts <30 sec or so. So I'm very happy that I switched her off of Phenobarbital, as her life is better for it.

I'd caution though that just because this worked in her case, doesn't mean it will for you. Such a change might be disastrous for your kitty, and I would hate that to be on my and your conscience. The one piece of advice I'd give is to try to understand the seizures as well as you can. Vets have the medical training, but you have the data and observations about how and when they occur. Are they at all predictable? Is there commonality as far as when they happen and under what circumstance?

Thank you Sherry and Brian, I appreciate all the help and info I can get, I am new to these boards, and I'm so glad I'm able to discuss this with other cat owners. I have had her tested and she checks out very healthy Beside these minimal seizures, and I know this particular medication isn't good for her liver. That is why I am considering the CBD OIL. Hopefully I can try to find someone who has experience with it, I'd love to hear some info on it... Thanks again for everything

Good luck with your research. Seizures are extremely scary for both you and your kitty. Getting them under control is super important.
