Does anybody have any experience with Adenocarcinoma in Bengals? Our Gus had a lump removed from his knee last week, we got the test results today saying not good news :( From what we understand, it's predominantly a gastrointestinal cancer with a very poor prognosis. We don't quite know where to go from here, whether to go through with the blood tests and xrays to see if there's any further indication of cancer (ie the knee lump was a metastasis from GI tumours), or to plead ignorance and assume that because the lump was removed with good margins, that he's cancer free. We've already pretty much decided that we won't proceed with chemo etc, as it's likely to be cost prohibitive.

This is what my baby, Cleo, was diagnosed with. She had confirming blood tests that it was progressive, and due to the high spread rate - tumours in her tummy quadrupled in the week between tests / results - I made the decision to PTS.

She was 15 and had lost her sister two years earlier to a stroke. I was not willing to put her through massive surgery and risk her being in constant pain, and she just drifted off in my arms, with hardly any anaesthetic. It still breaks my heart to this day, but it was the right decision for her.

Thanks guys! We'll have the bloods done, just in case. He's only 4, so quite young for this type of cancer from what I've googled. He's still eating, drinking, pooping anjd peeing like a champion, so we're hoping that that's a positive! He's feeling pretty sore and sorry for himself this morning, we discovered that he's managed to open the wound up despite an elizabethan collar, so back off to the vet. We'll have a good chat to her then and work out what our options are. I won't put him through either chemo or major surgery, seeing how much he's been knocked around by this one makes me think that if the prognosis isn't good, I'd rather he enjoy the time he has left with us rather than spending it doped up on pain meds from surgery!

Slightly better news this morning! We took him off to the vet, his wound has pulled but not completely opened. It is infected though, so he had an antibiotic injection and we have to clean the wound twice a day with saline. The tumour was an adenosarcoma not carcinoma, and it was in a sweat gland on his knee. Apparently tumours located inb the sweat gland are only locally invasive, and given that they got all of the tumour with good margins, it's unlikely to reoccur. We'll be on lump watch for the rest of his life and keeping an eye on his eating/drinking too, but it's a much more positive outlook now! Very happy Bengal mummy here :)
