We thought about showing Max too but he freaks out being in a cage. Open the door and he's cool. Shut the door and he just looks like he must have done something horrible to get this punishment then screams like hes being tortured and tries to rip the carrier apart. We went to a show to see what it was like and there were some cats out of their cages on peoples laps but he would want to walk in his harness checking everything out. When we walk he is good about respecting boundaries when he can't go in a certain area but if he has to stay in such a small area I just didn't see him enjoying it so we never tried. I was also worried about how he would be when the judges put him back on his cage I the judging ring.
we went to a couple of shows just to check them out and see if it was worth trying. He is more of a dirt and forest adventure cat than a city primping kitty.
We decided to "show" him more of the outdoors with our free time instead.
If your breeder is willing to walk you throughshowing step by step (mine was) and be there with you during the show it may be worth trying. Mine wouldn't have been able to go with us. She was willing to find me a mentor that would. She even said she has had people go to shows with the same fears and the cats ended up hamming it up and loving it. Others didn't go very well so they didn't even stay all day. She even said when she first started there was a show she left after the first or second ring. The cat was unhappy there so she was too and she just packed it up in kitty's best interest. This is what we would have done if we had tried showing and it was too upsetting for Max. All the tips I received when we were considering showing suggested starting early so they get used to all the components of a show and can roll with it as they get older. there is no way he would sit in a cage for hours or however long it takes....he would be meowing and looking at my like WHYYYY?? let me out!! do all the cats act like this at showings? i only put him in his carrier when its time for vet and he doesnt like it in there at all.
....well my breeder goes quit a few times to them herself... safari sometimes does surprise me at times...hes good in car rides...acts good other times...at vet acts good. but im just not to sure how he would react..he could be a angel...or then again act crazy. im just not sure with him. im going to look up and find some videos so i could see what happens so i can get a feel on what he would be experiencing.
but she said she will call me back with more details ect.....she also said its 50 bucks to enter...and im going on a vacation next month and 50 bucks is alot...well to me...plus the gas i would have to spend driving to her house which is a hour/and a half away. im still debating...maybe once she tells me more about it i will make my decision... and she knows alot of info on this so for her to ask to me she must feel safari would be a great candidate.
