Hi, I dont even want to ask who was so careless and irresponsible to give you a cat that is due in a week. Rehoming is a particularly stressful experience for any cat, and for her to be due any day on top of that, is just very sad! Poor girl must be SO stressed!

Thye best thing you can do now for her is to make her as comfortable and relaxed as possible. I would keep her in one room where it is quiet, and she can be left alone, with a nice big box, with blankets, so that she can start getting used to it, and prepare to give birth there.

Make sure your vet is available if necessary, and read as much as you can about cats giving birth, and when to get urgent help.

And PLEASE neuter her as soon as possible!

people make me so sick, I can't believe someone would rehome a pregnant cat for so many reason

she will need quiet space as has already been suggested and you should be giving her a lot more food than usual

um where has the assumption been made that this cat was rehomed or sold pregnant? are you sure this queen didn't just get out and get pregnant and she's just worked it out?? Or possibly she's a new breeder and hasn't been helped by her queen's breeder or done the proper research and is now panicking for details of what to do?? surely there are other scenarios...

Also be in contact with your vet and let them know you will be expecting soon, find out all their details for their out of hours services and be sure you have the number handy. do not hesitate to ring them at any point they are always happy to speak to you and answer questions free of charge. Also I would suggest joining the Novice Breeders list on Yahoo Groups. There are a lot of very experienced people on there that are always happy to help.

feel free to contact myself as well if you would like, I would be happy to help you. just let me know what you're stuck on. For the most part cats are fairly self sufficient in birthing but you need to be aware of the goods and bads and be ready to deal with some pretty horrible stuff.

You need to provide a nesting area and keep her confined to one room ideally where there aren't any places for her to get out of your reach or put any small kittens in danger. (i.e. down the side of a bed up against the wall, out a window, in a toilet, under a bed...)

Hmm, well excuse me for interpreting her message! I hardly think she is a novice breeder that was "recently given my first Bengal"!

The use of the word "recently" was what guided me to the assumption that she was given a pregnant cat, but hey, I was just expressing my concerns for her and the cat, because it can be a stressful situation for BOTH of them.

hi thanks everyone for replying xxxx i havent just had a pregnant bengal ditched on me! lol i was warned before hand she had done the deed but as she is small anyway it was very hard for me to tell. on the advice of the vet i didnt take her there as she is terrifed of travelling and he said there was zero emergency. just let nature take its course. as i am a novice im just getting extremely nervous. ive had her for 6 weeks + now and she is very happy and relaxed. i especially thank you nekosushi for been so kind and taking the time to help. will look at all the links. looked at a couple already and im just sooo nervous. dont think ill remember any of it lol!! and will maybe take you up on that offer Zoekie thanks x x x x just please dont think badly of me

Unfortunately dawnf that is the harsh reality of breeding, it is more about "livestock" than most think.

Some breeders have "pets", no matter how many they have, they look on their breeding animals as pet cats, find good forever homes for them, mentor novices and truly care about their cats.

Others have "breeding machines" whose only purpose is to churn out kittens. The cats are used, then jettisoned when no longer required for the highest price they can get; those have no qualms selling on pregnant cats to novices. They treat their cats as "money makers", no more, no less, no different to a dealer buying and selling sheep at the market.

One of the purposes of the forum is to highlight those practices so that pet owners and novice breeders are aware of the "reality", so they can ask the right questions of a breeder, they can look at breeders in a different, more searching way and suss out those that are only there to make a quick buck at the expense of the poor cats.
