elaine, what do you mean when you write "I know pyo can occur in maiden females, but many maiden females are exposed to males in catteries - neutered pet studs for example kept as house pets."?
what does the exposure to castrates do? are you referring to the use of vasectomized toms?

i have not come across any research on the question re: the role of the male but will forward the question...

Wow, you've had (are having) an interesting life and sounds like you've got a great place to live and hang out with all your various animals. I look forward to hearing more about them all.
