Hiya. some of you may know Im try to arrange for a bunch of local ferals to get neutered. (am just awaiting the CPL to have a trap available and to send me there "feral neutering pack")

well since I am a sad freak who has nothing better to do i spent a fair bit of today watching them

There are 5, 3 adults and 2 kittens.

I would estimate (based on the size goblin was when we first visited him) that they are around 8-10 weeks old. but i know it is possible that they may be older but just malnourished...

Well one of the older toms has (within the last hour) bitten the scruff of one of the kittens neck and tried to lower himself over her 5 or 6 times.

she has fought him off each time.

does this possibly mean she is going into heat soon? Have you ever heard of a kitten going into heat that young?

Is there any sure fire way I can check? I mean our vet Will not spay before 6 months but if she can go into heat this early she will be pregnant by the time she can be spayed!!!!

Hopefully it's just an over-enthusiastic male and the kitten isn't in heat - I've never heard of one coming into heat that early. Mind you, if she's strong enough to fight him off then I suspect she's older than 10 weeks so maybe it's possible.

I have litter mates who are 4 months old now. My boy is always doing that to my girl, but my vets tell me that girls mature alot later than boys.. And it is all part of cats being cats..

If she is fighting him off that is a sign that she isn't ready... My boy is not due to be neutered until 5 months, and her at 6 months..

As I said, I am going from what my own vets have said to me.. And I hope she is right..

gosh i hope you guys are right...

Im calling the cpl again tomorrow to see if they know of anyone else in the area that will neuter early.... they must know someone....
