Hello everybody! I am from Romania and I have a small Bengal cattery (only one queen at the moment, and one adopted cat!) but with big plans for the future. I could really use your help with a problem that I have with my queen. She is a gorgeous female, with a fantastic pedigree and very healthy (thou she is kind of picky about food....). We take great care of her and love her to the moon and back. This year in May, at age 1.5 years, she had her first birth and unfortunately it was a difficult birth, 2 kittens were born dead and the third one had to be pulled out by c-section. It was a very difficult time for her and for us of course, and after she recovered from c-section we decided to put her on Suprelorin implant, to give her a long period of rest before she will have the second (and the last) litter by c-section also, and because we didn't . As I understood, using Suprelorin on females can lead to a longer period of inactivity, but she is very young and this is not a problem for us. We just wanted her to take a long break and just enjoy life, before being pregnant again. After the c-section, she start heating again in about 3 weeks, and after the first heat period, we put the implant on (under the skin, in the belly area).
The problem is that we put the Suprelorin implant on her about 4 months ago, and from then she is constantly heating all time, like 18 days in heat, 2 - 3 days off heat, and then again 18 days of heating, and so on. She is calling very strongly in the middle of the night (we live in an apartment....), she pees all over the house (never did this before) and the only good thing is that she is eating very very well in heating time (I know, is unusual!), now she is back again on Royal Canin Queen (she had a break from this food until the false lactation disappeared after the c-section).
So, we are desperate. Here, there is very little information about Suprelorin, especially used for females. Yet, we know that many breeders from other countries use it with good results, but in our case, we don't know what to do about it. How long should we wait until Suprelorin is kicking in? Is it possible for Suprelorin not to work on her, so we have to take it off eventually? Is she having some hormonal issues which stay in the middle of everything? We are really concerned about her health and well being and we don't know what is the best solution for her. We didn't want to spay her with the occasion of her first c-section, I relly want to give her a second chance for a healthy litter (by the way, the lost kittens born dead were perfect, with no missing organs, etc.).
If any of you have some good or bad stories with Suprelorin on females, please give me some advice. We are totally lost. I don't mind the peeing, the calling, etc., thou we are very tired, but I am concerned about the effects this loooong heating period might have on her health. Until now she seems OK, apart from heating, the coat looks great, apparently she is just.... horny! But we are newbies in breeding and I am afraid of the potentially wrong choices I may take because of that.
