Hi, I am wondering how long it takes for rosettes to open. I'm hoping to buy a female on the active register. She is 5 weeks now and her spots haven't opened. I noticed on this forum that the rosettes show as early as 4 weeks. I'm not sure if I should go ahead which will be heartbreaking as she's perfect in every other way. Any advice would be great. Thanks

Rosettes open? I've never heard of that. Rosetted kittens are born with the rosettes. Marbled babies already have the marbling. The coloring should be apparent in the kitten unless it's a snow and those rosettes and marbling are extremely light, but visible. Melanistic bengals also have visible markings. If you have a picture to post, by all means post it so we can see what you're talking about.

When Quasar was a young kitten, he had stripes and some spots that were not rosetted.
As he grew, his stripes turned into chains and then into rosetted chains. The spots opened up into rosettes. He even has rosettes up the back of his tail.
His littermate had all solid black spots that opened into big rosettes. Rosettes can definitely open up over time.

All coats develop differently.

By the time Quasar was a year old, his coat had largely stopped changing.

It must depend on the breeder and the parents. I've seen countless kittens who have beautiful donut rosetting at 13 weeks. Even newborn kittens show rosetting. I think it is common for the pelt to change in the early stages of life.

Bengal kittens to through wat is called fuzzies there markings are not clear and with growth of the cat and coat they become clear that's why they recommend kittens stay with you till there 14 weeks as this gives time for the to develop there markings andalso get the best start in life hope this helps x
