We are thinking of getting a kitten to be a future stud cat and was wondering at what age would a stud be mature to be able to breed from?

yup we know acquiring a stud is big step and one not to be taken likely

I don't think that boys should mate before 10-12months old, like them to mature a bit first, although I have known boys to mate at 5 & half months & 6 months and they want to mate 24-7 and cry constantly now.

It is hell of hard work owning a stud and they need a minimum amount of girls. Do you breed now? Health test? How many girls do you own? Where would the stud live?

Although why does it surprise me as most people who ask a simple question on this forum then to get the same response !! Treated like they don't know what they are doing and should not breed !!!

For your information, I currently show and breed and have a few mentors who are long standing Bengal breeders ! It goes without saying I take advice from them but sometime I like second opinions / don't want to bother them all the time.

If you have something to say re min no of girls, heath tests, where to keep cats then say it, don't ask just give your opinion, it will come across a lot better.

At the moment it feels that any response given will be shot down in flames.

I only went defenses because of your style of question with a question rather than just a plain and simple answer
Up until now we have used outside studs so therefore never needed to know the answer

Someone who asks a question gets and answer and does not want to get into question after question is now "cut and run" in your eyes? Strange way at looking at things

I agree the spirit of this forum is to help. But imho the line of questioning was "assuming" as I say re worded would have come across a lot more friendly.

So we cant ask questions and help you out?

You obviously have lots of mentors helping you out so probably know it all then, maybe email them and ask them?

I find it quite rude and insulting your post, I had loads of people ask me loads of questions when I started and I am grateful as it showed how much they cared and wanted to help, not give just one word answers.

what age to use a stud?

For me i like to let them fumble about it while there young, sort of get used to the act rather than the deed.
it has to be with the right girls to do that, or they may well rip him apart.
I think that generaly this will happen when its the right time for him.....but if you have a difficult girl or other non-ideal circumstances, he/they may need intervention.
i watch a new boy for signs that he is maturing and ready, there are many other clues that are given away.
Most of my boys have been active from twelve months.

The stud requiring many queens topic does interest me, perhaps i could have your thoughts.
My first stud had only three girls and was a very content boy, with very little spraying and "bengal" talking.
Yet i know of other studs that have five queens and a playmate and still unhappy.
Do you think true contentment would come when 10 queens coming in or out of heat would please a highly strung boy?
Ive have also noticed because my girls dont tend to call from november to feb that my boy gets restless in those months and if it wasnt for a playmate i think he would be driven mad.
