We have had our 14 week old boy for 2 weeks now and were wondering what the procedure was for putting him up for stud and would he be able to live with out two 2 year old spayed domestic moggy girls

What do you know about keeping a stud? Is your boy on active? What health tests have you run on him, or will run as he is older?

A male that hasn't been neutered doesn't make a great pet. I struggle with the idea to neuter but all the research I did pointed to doing it. Unless its an outdoor ONLY cat. Maybe I'm wrong good luck.

Many people think of breeding without actually knowing what breeding implies.
First of all, a stud will spray. Spray STINKS and it's very very hard to get rid of it. If you think you can live with that, just don't mind my post

The first thing is

Did you buy him for a stud on the active register? If not, Neuter him, you do not have permission.

If you did then you shouldn't have been - You have no females for him, no breeder in their right mind would sell a stud to someone with no Queens.

He will spray and stink - you will not be able to keep him inside so he will need a heated/insulated specially made stud house in the garden.

You will need to health test him, he needs to be normal for Pk-def and should ideally be HCM heart screened. Then he will need to be tested for FIV/FELV - you will need to make sure any girls coming to visit him are also tested for at least FIV/FELV (24-48hours previously to visit) & check the PK-DEF status.

You will need to decide how you will house the queen - as mating does not take part over a one day visit. It can take 4 successful matings for a queen to take - so you are looking at a visit of around 10 days - 2 weeks each time a queen visits.

Then you need to draw up a mating certificate to give to the person who has visited with their queen with a litter pedigree, your terms regarding kittens, and the expected birth date of the litter. There will need to be a signed stud agreement also.

The health checks would need to be routinely done after each queen has visited to make sure your stud remains healthy and that the visiting queen has not infected him with anything that he could then potentially pass on. So you may need to read up about TF also.

A Stud does need regular girls to keep him happy - so you need to know he will have these otherwise its not fair on him.

You should only be letting registered girls visit him that are also on the active register so that kittens can be registered - so always ask for the queen owner to bring the cats registration slip so you can double check, aswell as the queens pedigree.
