I was looking for some advice on finding the best stud, my girl is only 7 months, so quite a while to wait, but she's just had her first call and it's really made me think about planning for her first litter.

Can anyone offer tips to finding a reputable registered stud? Are there any specific questions I should ask etc?

What is your experience with cat breeding? What health tests have you, or will you, perform on your queen?

To be honest, this is my first experience of breeding. My queen is on the active register, and I would intend to test for FIV/FELV before any stud visit.

I've researched these, and they are obviously a big concern, but I'm struggling to find where I can get screening, can you recommend anywhere?

Hi im also in the uk and just sent of a swab to Langford vets for pk-def test its £31.50 they also carry out most other tests theres a price list and instructions there also. we also sed a sample off for every new cat coming to us for tf just to be on the safe side hope this helps

no problem they are very good and reasonable on prices compared to going through a vet 1st and most uk vets send certain items off to langfords anyway x

Also have a look around at breeder websites, some breeders have stud boys who are available to outside active registered girls so it's worth having a look around to see if any of these studs match what you are looking for and it gives you a chance to see photos of the kittens they have produced too. You want to find a stud boy who has been PK-Def tested and preferably HCM screened.

For HCM screening your girl would need to be taken to a veterinary cardiologyst for an echocardiogram (scan basically) at about 1 year old and then it should be done annually after that, you can find a list of cardiologysts who HCM screen in the UK here:
