Hi everyone,

My girl is 68 days pregnant, huge, and there has been movement in her abdomen from the kittens for the past 2 weeks or more. I can feel them moving when she sits on my lap.

She is fit and healthy, still eating the same amount to date. This morning I noticed her milk had come in, white and sticky when touching her nipples. She has not made any signs of nesting yet. Do you think the birth is imminent ? and at what point should I let a vet intervene? as in, how many days do I let her go.

I cannot pinpoint her actual date of conception as she was with the stud for a week, but calculated her date from the 4th day she was with him as that is when the stud owner confirmed he actually witnessed the happy couple ' in action', :)

So from the 4th day with the stud, up to today, she would be 68 days, but could possbly be more.

This is her first litter and she is 1 year old.

I know cats are in the 'sisters are doing it for themselves' bracket, but I really want to be around to support her and am back at work tomorrow, so wont be there for her 24/7. I will go home at lunchtime tho to check her. I'm worried she may have gone too long and I should get her to a vet soon?

She is eating and using her litter tray fine, and seems quite happy in herself.

thankyou for any advice and support

Just got in and had a very quick read....

It sounds like your girl may give birth tonight. :)

You really should be there at the birthing as little lives can be saved with a little help!

I hope all goes well and I look forward to seeing photo's in a few days when mum has settled down with them. Good luck.

thanks Karen x,

I will be there and have booked off 2 weeks , phoned my boss tonight.
She wouldnt have been on her own all day anyway as my mother would be with her but its best I'm there as she is really close to me.

Mya lost her mucus plug this afternoon and has been very restless, she has had one big contraction where she squatted and pushed about an hour ago but has gone quiet since then. I think it might be a long night.

I will post pics of her babies, the sire is SGCH Riviera Elvis, I'm sure the kittens will be beautiful :)

xx

Tonight's the night!!! :) You should see a result quite soon I think?

I am sure you will get support from your queens breeder and/or from the stud owner, but if you need any help, feel free to call me?

Thankyou Karen, I really appreciate that, I used to breed golden retrievers for years and lost my last goldie last year at 16 years old :(

I had been interested in the development of the Bengal breed for years and understand the importance of the breeding standards. For some reason I'm just so much more worried about her than I was with my dogs and I just want to do everything right. xx

Hiya you said that she has been pushing for a hour then stopped? I had that with my last girl and she couldnt push the kitten out, hence the drive to the vet 2 shots of oxytocin, lucky no c-section was needed.

normally people say if they push for 25mins and nothing call the vet, so Id be phoning them up if she was pushing for ahour, she may need a bit of help if nothing is showing.

any news?

well done for getting the 2 weeks off, keep her and babies with you 24/7, you wont be able to leave them! :D

Had a worry last night because I made up a bed in the room with her as previously advised but she got very confused and kept bringing the baby to me and then back to the nest, repeatedly, I thought the poor little thing was going to die, it looked like dead mouse just hanging out of her mouth:(.

She even attempted to take it to the litter box

She seemed confused as to whether it should be in the nest or be brought to me ? so I went in the room next door to keep an eye on her through the window. I stayed at a constant vigil until 4 am. Fell asleep for 1 hour woke up and looked through the window and there are a total of FIVE healthy kittens with her !!!

I cannot believe she had four in the hour I was asleep.

Now my worry (or at least one of them) is that she has passed all the placentas.

thankyou for supporting me , xx

Congrats to the mum and you! 5 babies! :)

I have had new mums here (and some older more experienced ones too) who move their babies around a lot, so I find it safer to settle them in a kittening pen just before they are due. I just think they don't know where to put the babies or what to do with them sometimes.

If she isn't going to like you touching them, you can just feel their bodies while they are in the box. You will notice a difference between one that has fed and one that hasn't, just by gently picking them up and feeling the roundness of their tummies. You won't need to take them out of the box that way. If they are all suckling they should be ok as long as she has enough milk.

You may find that a placenta will come away within the next day or two, if she still has one inside.

Good luck with them...and I look forward to photo's once she has settled....maybe a couple of days?

lol I was up! Im always up! I would have answered! :D

she might of just been confused, is it hot in there? whats her bed/birthing box like? If she is settled now she may have just been confused, I know my girls (apart from a couple) on first litters are like 'what.the.hell.is.going...onnnnnnn!!!'

If you are close to her there is no reason why you cant be with her 24/7, they are normally very glad of the company and like to look to you for guidence!

remember to weigh them everyday at the same time, so for example start about 5pm today then tom 5pm etc, as this is sucha great weigh of finding out how much they gain daily, then if they arent gaining whether mum has no milk or there is a problem etc

what colours did she have??
