poor baby & mum, I did have a bengal litter of 6 and the 5 boys were thriving but the little angel girl wouldnt/couldnt suckle nor would she let me feed her, she just cried, mum *knew* that something was up and wouldnt entertain her, would push her away, in the end we spoke to the vet who said that it happens sometimes and mum *knows* it, the next night mum had pushed out way out of the nest away from everyone and she had passed at 2days old

The other kittens were perfect though and mum was fantastic, so its just nature I guess?

It is sad to see I am sure, but really all cats are still wild animals in a way and in the wild it would be a waste of valuable resources to continue feeding a kitten that is not going to make the grade.

Survival of the fittest may not seem a very nice option to us but it has kept species alive for millions of years in the wild.

Thanks everyone. I have been watching them very closely all weekend, and mommy and babies seem fine.

She has never done anything like this, so I assume it was "nature's way" and he was probably not going to make it.

I am so sorry to hear of your dreadful experience. I have come across this myself when one of my queens once gave birth to a deformed kitten in an otherwise healthy litter. The kitten was (luckily) stillborn, but she immediately started to eat it until I whisked it away. It is an awful thing to see, but it seems that mother animals of all kinds do sense a dead or sickly kitten, and dispose of it quickly themselves because in the wild the smell would attract predators to the 'nest'. That makes sense to me, and makes it a little bit easier to accept.
