It depends on the cat and the diet. Some cats go every other day and it's perfectly normal for them, while others go three times a day and it's perfectly normal. The numbers most often cited are once or twice per day, but your cat's dumpage may vary. The more fiber in the food, the larger, softer and more frequently the dumps. Cats fed on raw food have less "waste" to eliminate than cats fed on commercial foods with lots of fillers. In general, the higher quality the food is, the more of it is actually digested with less waste being dumped in the litter box. It will dry up as the litter draws the water out of it.
Sorry for spoiling the tootsie rolls for you! The grossest thing is when you do a search on tootsie roll & cat poo on Google, it comes up with lots of recipes for making edible but very real looking cat litter box contents...
