Do you just calculate the amount for each cats and put it all out together? I have calculated that all my cats combined need 2 cups per day (of Orijen). I was going to feed them twice per day. 1 cup morning, 1 cup in the evening. This is what I started yesterday and it worked out fine.Everyone seemed to to be eating. But my concern is Harrison. He is a big boy for his age. 8 months old and already 12 pounds. He has a bit of a belly on him and has the tendency to be overweight I think. Do you think the cats will just eat their share? I am not quite sure how to handle it.

we just add up what our 4 should be eating and divide it between 4 bowls. i do understand that some cats will eat more than they need to but so far our 4 just graze when they want. we feed them dry twice a day with the odd wet treat.

I also put down 4 bowls and let mine get on with it. I give them wet food (Bozita) twice a day and I leave dry food (Bozita or Orijen) down all day. So far I've not had the problem of any of them over-eating or being overweight. I've no idea how you deal with that to be honest, unless there's some way of them having fixed meal times and feeding the greedy one separately.

I've read in a couple of different places that cats eat less when being given quality food as they won't crave the nutrition so won't eat as many calories. Also foods like Whiskas have lot of additives and flavouring in them which make them sort of addictive to cats. I'd imagine he'll automatically eat less on Orijen.

It might just be easier to concentrate on giving him a lot of exercise to help him trim down. I've fostered a pair of bigger cats before and the vet recommended playing with them hard so they lose their breath once a day. This only takes about 15 minutes of them chasing strings a day.

It gets tricky if you have a cat that needs a special diet or if one is eating all the food and growing fat. I have to put some of Mikesch's food on the counter where Binky can't reach it (he's too old/fat/lazy to jump up there).
