Hi all

I became the very proud owner of a 10 week 4 day old silver rosetted female yesterday. The breeder has been feeding them turkey mince but only twice a day. While she is my first Bengal I have Ragdolls and know that she should still be on a few meals throughout the day, which I will change to.

Her tummy is, in my opinion, a little bloated. Could that be from just eating the two larger meals a day?

My Ragdolls totally turned their nose up at raw so I don’t have too much experience with it but would like to keep the Bengal on it.

Can you please let me know if feeding turkey mince is fine to continue with and the ratio of her weight to weight of raw a day she should eat? What the calculation is?

Also, can she have biscuits too or not at the same time as raw.

I want to get this right for her. She’s stolen my heart already

Is the raw JUST turkey mince or like a brand of prepared raw cat food? If you are making the raw yourself, they need very specific ratio of meat/organs, ect. Taurine is VERY important. You will become a cat nutritionist to make your own raw cat food.

I am just asking because I want to be sure you are feeding appropriate food.

I fostered a ragdoll and did not find them very compatible with my high energy bengals so I hope you have better luck. All cat's are individuals so may be fine.

My cats self regulate how much food they eat and kittens are growing and need a lot of food. While adult bengal's can get overweight, I have not had this issue with the breed.... they are just so active, I think most burn it off.

Congrats on your new baby :) I wish she would have stayed with her mama until 12 weeks. This is the best practice, 10 weeks is a bit young...mama still had some teaching to do but until this becomes common knowledge for buyers... some breeders will keep sending them home too early :(

I'm not sure if anyone is going to be able to provide a scientifically verified weight-to-food weight per meal ratio. That's tough, because it's going to depend on activity level and calorie burn too, right? I think the most common approach is to feed what your cat will eat in one sitting, and then when she gets closer to adulthood, carefully monitor body-shape to adjust up or down.

Welcome to our forum and congratulations on your baby. Check your contract with the breeder. Most contain language the the bengal be seen by a vet within 72 hours. If not, it is still a good idea to take the kitten to the vet to be checked out and start a medical chart. Your vet will explain any issues and you can ask about the bloated belly. It's obviously large enough to concern you. I assume the kitty is going to the bathroom okay.

It is always recommended you continue the food from the breeder and slowly transition to whatever food you want to give the kitten. You are correct! Infants cannot survive on two meals a day. Kittens are the same. They need smaller multiple meals throughout the day. Your breeder should have sent you home with a supply of food.
