I'm not sure which food will be better for our kitten.

I plan on feeding wet food since that is what our breeder recommends besides a raw diet. I will also supplement my kitten's diet with plain scrambled eggs and cat milk once in a while. A small amount of omega 3 oil will be poured on my kitten's food at every meal.

Wellness has great ingredients but they only have one canned food for kittens. Only Natural's wet food is for all life stages.

What are your recommendations for a commercial pet food? I would never feed a cat cheap grocery store brands.

Really no point in 'scrambling' the eggs. Raw egg is fine for a supplement and will provide most additional things a commercial wet/dry wont. Omega 3 & 6 can come from anything sensible, but sources can be any naturally 'oily' fish like pilchards (sardines) or salmon, or fish/salmon oil.

To give an example, when we make a raw batch, we use tinned pilchards (400g / 14.1oz) at approx 1.5% of the total batch weight. (the last 125lbs batch used 5.95lbs of pilchards) along with approx 1 raw egg per 3lb of total batch weight.

Cat milk is not recommended. Some of the worst products on the market. Once your kitten is weaned, water is basically the only liquid they need. They do make chicken broth for cats and I have a friend who gives it (heated to warm in the microwave) to her outdoor cats in the freezing temps.

A nutritionally balanced manufactured food is basically all you need. Unless you are feeding raw, supplements are not usually needed.

I guess I'm not really a wellness fan. It's what I initially fed my bengals initially when I got them, but I regret doing it. Three things that I dislike about wellness:

1. Wellness has traditionally been a pate-only canned food brand, and I've grown real distrustful of pate food. Imo, it is a less palatable way to serve food to cats, and it also conveniently obfuscates the ingredients in the food, letting them get away with using inferior ingredients. To wellness' credit though, in recent years they have (finally) started making other types of formulations, but even those foods don't pass the "eye and nose" test for me.

2. My three cats have always disliked wellness canned (and dry) food in terms of taste. We even auditioned some of the newer, more expensive canned varieties, but my cats hated those too. The only thing they like from wellness are the expensive food pouches. Now *those* are good.

3. Wellness has had food recalls. You need to think about that carefully when planning. Are you willing to put all your eggs in the wellness basket knowing that they'll more than likely have more recalls (or even scarier, maybe they won't)?

Personally, I think a lot more highly of Weruva, Tiki Cat and Earthborn Holistic. If you open up a can of any of those, you can see and smell the quality ingredients, and my cats are also much more enthusiastic about them.

Oh, and I wouldn't really sweat the "for kittens" thing when it comes to canned foods. For dry food, I can see it more, because they make the kernels smaller, which is helpful. But for canned? Just focus on getting them good food, that they really like to eat.

I've never heard of "Only Natural" cat food. That's a brand?

Hmm, my current Chewy order has a bag of Wellness Core dry. It came up on a list of the best dry cat foods. I guess we'll see how the kitties like it. Raiden (bengal) doesn't eat a lot of dry food -- mainly the DSH. I'm sure many of you have heard about the dog food that was tested and came back with traces of a euthanasia drug in the food. Dogs have gotten sick and died from eating it. A kitty sanctuary near here had 50 cats get sick on Purine Complete and five of them died. Tests are currently being run by three different labs, including Purina's. Other cats in that same area also were sickened and they think it was just a bad batch that was sent to that region. We won't know for sure for weeks.

Actually ANY manufactured cat food can be deadly to your cat. But for those of us who simply will not prepare a raw diet, we have little choice but to do our research and choose wisely.

I'm very fortunate to have this forum as a resource. It's great to share information and learn more.
Based on what I've learned in this thread and further research, I've decided not to feed my Bengal either of those foods.
I'm going to go with Acana instead. That food is only sold at specialty pet stores and none of them are nearby. I'm going to order the food from a website.

I looked at the 'cat milk' at Pet Smart, and really it's just Lactaid milk.

My breeder is totally against any type of dry food. He sent me a link with a plethora of information which was astonishing.
I was concerned about the expense of raw food and I was also worried about my cat getting all of the proper nutrients from a raw diet. However, I found out about a raw food called Instinct. It has excellent reviews and the ingredients seem very healthy.
I think we'll go with this option if my breeder is okay with it.
