Ok I’m panicking now. My girl got hold of our Sunday dinner chicken carcas and she ate two or three small bones (wish bone size). I’m paranoid now she’s gonna start getting poorly as I read they can splinter inside. She’s fast asleep now but I don’t know if I should do something or just wait and see. Anyone had any experience with this? She’s very happy as she has a full belly from eating chicken breast but she got hold of some bones when I was tidying up.

Chicken bones are not the best for cats or dogs due to the splintering that can happen and possible puncturing of the digestive tract. This is going to depend on how well your girl chewed the bones. They say to look for signs that your cat is having problems passing them. If the stomach starts to swell. If there is vomiting. If there is an issue in trying to poop. The stomach is really not able to break up the bones. Depending on the size of the bone, it may pass through the digestive tract with no issue. Wishbone size doesn't tell me a lot because that depends on the size of the chicken. Cooked chicken bones are more prone to splintering than raw chicken bones.

So ... observe your girl -- and if you see any signs at all of problems, rush her to the vet. Watch her stools to make sure they come out. If you do not see anything within 24 to 48 hours, I would take her to the vet to have them X-ray her to see where they may be -- or if they are gone. And, you've got to keep her away from anything like that again. I know bengals are sneaky creatures.

I do hope you discover they have passed through just fine. But do keep us updated.

Thank you for your comment. It’s been 20 hours now and she’s gone to the toilet as normal. Not showing any sighs of sickness or illness. I’ll still keep a close eye on her for the next 24 hours.

If she did chew the up, rather than swallow them whole, it is possible they were small enough pieces to pass through okay. Another 24 hours and I would think she would be out of the woods. Keep us posted.

All fine. She’s not shown any problems since eating them and is her usual happy self. Needless to say chicken bones will be kept well aware from her in the future.
