I am soon going to be a bengal kitten father (photos will come!)

I've been doing a lot of research/reading over the eons with nutrition and have decided I will eventually transition my kitten to Primal Frozen Raw Chicken/Salmon. And a similarly high quality dry food, but we will have to see what she likes (thinking NV- Instinct, other suggestions/experience would also be appreciated! )

However the other day I was thinking why not add NuVet Plus to the formula (even sparingly just to have added nutrients)

Has anyone tried this or done anything similar, or do you think its fine without the supplements?

Well, congratulations on your upcoming arrival. The whole food situation should not be something you lose sleep over. LOL. Initially, you will keep your kitty on the same food the breeder has been feeding. Your baby will be stressed out from leaving the confines of mom and siblings and familiar territory to a brand new home with new people and new smells, so you want to get your kitty comfortable and confident in the new environment. Once that has happened, then you can slowly begin to transition the diet. If you do it rapidly, then diahrrea and/or constipation can occur.

You can research cat food ingredients until you are blue in the face and be confused. Premade raw should have all the nutrients your kitty requires. I would not over supplement the food. Every cat has their own tastes. You may purchase cans of food and your cat wants no part of it, so I would purchase a couple of different varieties and see what sticks. Know, too, your cat may go crazy over a type of food and then turn the nose up weeks later. Been there, done that.

Your will eventually hit on something that works for you and your baby.

I think it's great that you are enthusiastic about your cat and are wanting to do what's best for him, and learning about nutrition is great. But right now deciding not only what brand, but what flavors he is going to eat, lol. C'mon... you're getting WAAAY ahead of yourself, and setting yourself up for failure.

You need to respect the fact that your kitten is going to have his own preferences, and unlike human children, you cannot reason with them, or tell them that they won't get dessert until they eat it, or similar tactics. Once a cat has determined that something is not edible, that's it, game over. It doesn't matter how nutritious it is on paper, or how much you've already bought of it. You'll have to throw it all away. Going even further, you really want a food that he not only likes, but has a lot of enthusiasm for. Cats will go on and off foods, and there will be times when your cat is feeling "meh" and not that interested in eating. At those times, you don't want to only have foods that he is "lukewarm" for.

Here's what I suggest... by all means be thinking and researching this stuff. After the initial breaking-in period where he gets what the breeder was feeding him, make a list of different foods that are acceptable to you nutritionally. Hopefully it's a pretty long list, lol. Then go and buy small quantities of that stuff, promising yourself that if he hates it, or is only lukewarm about it, you dump it and move down further on your list.

P.S., my cats have all tried primal frozen, and they unanimously hate it. I've bought probably a dozen different frozen raw foods for them before I settled on their ultimate diets.
