Was wondering if someone could help me. I got a new kitten Alfie last Sunday. The breeder said he was eating Natural Insticts weaning paste. It's 100% raw chicken with bone. However I plan on feeding him Applaws Dry food and Bozita wet. I'm not in a huge rush but this weaning paste is only a complementary diet and it's all he is eating so I want to get him on a complete diet as soon as possible. Iv cooked chicken breast for him but he won't touch it. Only the raw stuff!
So my question is: how do I transition him?! Iv googled it and everything only says how to transition them TO raw. Not the other way around. I'm afraid to mix the raw into the bozita as one is raw and one is cooked! That can't be good right?? Thanks for any advice yea can give me. I'm confused and need a game plan!

Cats are finicky! The best way is to offer both foods -- and lessen the amount of raw chicken you are offering the kitty. It can be tough to get a cat to eat a food they've never had before. And Alfie may simply not like the food you are planning to feed him. You may have to find something else. Since he is familiar with chicken, I'd try the chicken flavors. Most cats will eat the food because they are hungry, however, you are dealing with a new kitten and they need to eat 5 to 6 times a day and they MUST eat or they will have health issues rather quickly. Know that transitioning needs to take a couple of weeks until he is off the raw completely. I would also offer a few high-quality chicken treats to see if that helps him transition better. He's never eaten dry food or manufactured cat food, so be patient and be prepared to try something else if Alfie turns his nose up at what you are offering him.

Thanks so much for your fast response. I'll definitely follow your advice. Hopefully he will take to the change easily enough!! I'll wait about a week before I even start tho! Don't wanna rock the boat too early!!

How did you cook the chicken breast ?

The only way that I know of that works is to poach/steam it - so into the oven in a covered dish with water and cook for 20-30 mins until it is cooked through. Obviously, not a hint of salt/pepper/anything else that would smell "strange" to a cat.

You mean cats don't like seasoned chicken? . You've got to take your time in the transition and note that I just posted in a topic about bengals having sensitive tummies. With many, a change in diet is just too much for them and results in diarrhea, constipation, blood in the stool. So please be careful.

How awesome that we are getting cooking tips on this forum as well!!! I'm guessing the grilling weather in Oregon isn't that long (like July/August LOL). It isn't fun grilling outside wearing a jacket and competing with the smells of burning wood in fireplaces for heat! Ha ha ha!

That was the most amazing turkey I ever tasted! Now the smokey bones are simmering in the crock pot for soup and Blondie and Grace are laying on their backs with their feet in the air!
