Hi, we have had our kittens just over a week now and we have been them a diet pretty much the same as the breeder, the only difference is that she would grind her own meats while I buy it ground. Well we have not had them be too keen on it, they seem to eat a little and then just leave it, what I was wondering should I maybe warm it a little, I wonder if it's too cold for them? They will eat more if I add a little applaws chicken (they don't seem to like the fish based ones too much), but I really would like them to eat raw. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Oops, my apologies I should have been a little clearer about what I feed them. My breeder suggested I get this raw as it is what closely resembles what she did, it is only the chicken carcasses ground, I add the supplements and organs etc that they require according to what her recipe does, the biggest difference she stated is that the bone to meat ratio is not exactly the same. I had an understanding that applaws is not a complete diet and its why I only add a little mixed in with their raw, its just seems they like a little chicken mixed with it. My thoughts only stem from that they seem to eat more when it is not as cold, say out for 10 minutes or so. Thank you Elaine for your input, I really appreciate getting any information that will be of benefit for my two new family members, I agree at this age that its very important that it is balanced, I never knew just how important it all was until I joined on here and got very valuable information from those who defiantly knew more about it all than I did.

I always mix some warm water in with the raw when I give it to my cats. They much prefer it like that. I have always believed that cats dislike cold food because it smells less and they use smell to identify food. I buy natural instincts raw and the mix is quite firm so the extra water helps make it easy to eat.

Mine don't eat 100% raw as they have other wet food and dry food as well... Not all at the same time though lol

How did they go eating it warm? I like the warm water mix idea... I might try this!

To be honest it's a bit hit and miss, they eagerly start it but then don't eat much, who knows...I am in contact with the breeder to see what she suggests, I know they are still settling in really, so it may take a little longer, in all honesty they don't seem to be big eaters, especially Cinder, they don't seem to be starving either. I am hoping their appetites increase as they settle in more.

I've only had my boy about a month and he is the same! Sometimes he'll eat it all.. sometimes half.. sometimes sniff and come back later. They'll settle into a routine and food eventually! As long as they aren't hungry :)

I just try to keep it varied and interesting :)

The breeder tells me I need to be careful to not make them into fussy eaters, they are not starving and still eat, they just seem to prefer to graze throughout the day from what she was saying, so I will give them food in the morning, leave for a little while, take away what they don't eat, they can graze on the dry and I will give them more when I get home, and then again later around tea time. They look healthy and happy, I am going to have to stop over thinking it lol! Typing this all while Cinder is snuggled on my lap...he's not unhappy lol

I always run the bag under hot water for a few minutes. Mine dislike cold food as well, and they would never eat it straight out of the fridge.

Only one of my cats will eat [and loves] raw food* and he will only eat the food cold. By "cold", I mean very cold, barely defrosted.
I used to try and heat up my cats' food, and eventually gave up because none of them seem to care whether or not it is cold.

* note - I'm new to raw feeding, and I hope to convert the other two
