Hey everyone I need some advice, I'm not sure if my Bengal is just more finicky or stubborn than others but gettig him to stick with one food is a hassle. He will go love a certain food for a certain amount of time but then all of a sudden he will stop eating it. For example, when I first got him, I put him on Wellness core, he loved for about a month or so, he would eat everything that was in the bowl, then all of a sudden he stopped and wouldn't touch it. So then I switched him over to natures variety instinct, same thing. Then I switched him to ZiwiPeak, he was crazy for it for a while and then same thing. This is really becoming a headache as I'm being forced to always search for new foods, not to mention I end throwing away whatever is in his bowl and that is costing me a ton of money (the ZiwiPeak is $3 per can). I do have a habit of trying different foods all the time, do you think making him unwilling to commit to one brand of food? Any advice would be appreciated.

It is why I always vary my cats diet so they don't do this or, alternatively, get used to a food and then I struggle to get it.

Between raw and canned, there's probably dozens of different formulations that I alternate between with my cats. I think they enjoy the variety, and yea, sometimes their attitudes towards one or more of these formulations suddenly changes without warning. I think the downside is that I think it's a little rougher on their stomachs this way, and it can also be more difficult to track when something disagrees with one of the cats, but I still think it's a net positive that they are used to, and tolerate a lot of different things, and they haven't fallen into the pickiness trap yet.

I actually think a variety helps their overall digestion as it gets them used to a variety so when you swap and try a new food their is little effect and no need to slowly change. I agree it can make identifying what is a problem harder but I tend not to have any problems so have not had that issue.

Thanks for the replies, I probably should've mentioned that my cat is 6 months old, don't know if that changes your opinions or not. I would like him to get accustomed to different flavors/brands so its easier for me in the future, but he'll go on and off with what he likes, which confuses me on what to get him.

I wean my kittens onto a selection of foods so they get used to eating different foods. S long as they are all good quality and your kitty doesn't have a problem with them then you should be fine to off a variety.

I have actually had to do this recently!! My girl is almost a year old and recently she decided not to eat anything but dog food,After I had spent months trying to find the one cat food she would eat. She just woke up one day and didn't want it anymore! Of course she would eat the cheaper canned food that wasn't good for her so I started mixing her Blue with Wiskas and she ate it! I then had about 20 cans of different variety of foods to try, all of these she didn't like previously. So it hit me that maybe she was just bored with it!! So here I go, one day BB Wilderness, the next wiskas( I know I've gotta get that out), the next Earthborn Holistics, the next wellness!! It has worked so far!! I was worried she would just want junk but it turns out she just wanted variety!! I even gave her the BB wilderness this morning,which is what she stopped eating last week,and she cleaned her bowl!! So I am off to the pet store today because they have a sale on EB Holistics this weekend so I will stock up on that!! Just try to catch sales on different brands and get what you can!! Give a variety of your favorite foods that was there is not boredom!!

Can only agree with the others - I tend to rotate a little - not too much as I think sometimes you can make it worse if you are always offering up something different the minute they turn their nose up at what they've got.

Hey after a few days of him only eating dry food and rejecting all the wet food I gave him he finally ate his old favorite of ZiwiPeak venison. My only concern is that he won't go anywhere near anything chicken or turkey flavored, he only likes rabbit and venison, which is odd since when I first got him he was on wellness core chicken/turkey flavor and used to love it. I picked up a can of evo and by nature chicken and turkey recipes and tried to mix it in with the ZiwiPeak but as soon as he smelled something different he just walked away.

I feed my Quasar a sole diet of Nature's Variety Instinct Raw. We have found, through trial and error, that he does not like chicken at all. We tried rabbit and he seemed to like the medallions but, when I bought a bag of patties, he turned his nose up at it.

He has definite preferences. We gave up on the chicken completely. We feed duck alternating with lamb, duck being the definite favourite.

He eats about an 8 oz patty daily. He weighs 11 1/2 lbs at 9 1/2 wks of age.

I have had cats in the past who had definite faves as well. I say, go with the flow.
