Hey everyone I recently found a boutique pet store not far from where I live and they had some food brands I had never heard of. The lady at the store highly recommended a brand called ZiwiPeak. I got the venison flavor and my little boy loved it!! The ingredients are really impressive and this was a relief for me since my 6 month old stopped eating the wet food he was on before (Wellness Core). I have tried nearly every brand with him (blue buffalo wilderness, merrick bg, etc.) and he didn't like any of them, except Natures Variety Instinct. Just wanted to ask if anyone else was familiar with ZiwiPeak?

This store carried Weruva, which I've good things about but I didn't try it since all their foods are designed for adult maintenance, is it really that bad to feed a kitten "adult" food? I'm pretty sure in the wild the mother doesn't go out and get a second "kid's meal" for her kittens.

Can't really help with the foods as i'm not familiar with them, i'm in the UK. But i will say, the vast majority of 'kitten' foods contain very little difference than adult foods. They are often more money as they know people will buy them. Sometimes the bits are smaller, for smaller mouths and sometimes the wet is in smaller tins so that you aren't wasting food.

My view is they are a gimmicky food generally. Check the ingredients and nutritional info and compare against kitten foods.

Also, make sure you introduce 1 new food at a time as you will never know what caused tummy issues if they happen. Also, introduce new foods slowly.

Ziwipeak is freeze dried raw food. In the UK you can buy it from www.orijenpetfoods.co.uk in 170g tins and 700g pouch.

ZiwiPeak Cat Food
This is a complete natural diet for daily vitality prepared with care in New Zealand beneath the Bay of Plenty's peak, Mt Maunganui. The peak health of cats depends on the sustenance that they get from real meat. ZiwiPeak cat food products are formulated on the same balance of meat ingredients that cats would find hunting in the wild. It's the diet that nature intended.

Energise your pet with the nutritional value of a raw meat diet, with the convenience of air-dried portions.

ZiwiPeak cat food ingredients are ranch-raised (free of antibiotics and hormones) on New Zealand's green fields and fished from its clear blue waters. Only ingredients 'passed fit for human consumption' make the grade. With no colours, preservatives, fillers or grains. ZiwiPeak 'Cuisine' is suitable to feed your pet at any stage of life - from kitten to mature adult. Most importantly, they love the taste!

I've not tried Ziwipeak. It looks like they do have some interesting flavors. I'm not sure I would want my cats predominantly on a diet of venison and rabbit, but it does look interesting. I'll give it a try if any of the places I shop carries it.

I can definitely vouch for Weruva though. Very good food, my cats love it. Weruva just came out with a new sub-brand called "cats in the kitchen" which sells in larger cans and is a bit cheaper but is still high quality. I was explaining to the pet store clerk when I bought a huge box of it, that my cats wolf it down, then climb up on the counters, searching for the spoon that was used to serve it (to lick) and the empty can (to also lick) after they had eaten

In term of canned food, I don't think the kitten food is substantially different from adult. The one thing I'll say in favor of kitten dry food is that they'll often make the pieces smaller and easier to eat for a kitten, but that's really only important during the first few months.

Thanks for the advice guys. Btw Brian, what is wrong with a primary diet of venison/rabbit, my boy doesn't eat anything chicken/turkey/beef/fish.

Both venison and rabbit are considered more hypoallergenic than other meats. Not sure about venison, but rabbit is quite lean so may not have sufficient fat if fed solely, it is also low in Taurine so a supplement would be needed. This may be taken care of by the manufacturer.

Commercial cat food flavours very often contain supplements and other meats apart from the meat that is the flavour.

I've started buying ziwipeak for my two recently as I was getting fed up off the constant order and price errors with zooplus but I couldn't find anyone else online that sold tinned bozita. In the end I thought I'd try something else and so went for ziwipeak. So far it's been really good but a bit more expensive!

I've been ordering through viovet but I think you can order it from a few other places too. Viovet also do free delivery over a certain amount as zooplus does. The meat in ziwipeak is quite solid & the tinned bozita we used before often had a fatty layer towards the bottom of the tin but this doesn't have any noticeable fat in it. More importantly both cats love it and I haven't had any tummy troubles from Bai. I've been alternating the ziwipeak with Lily's kitchen also from viovet and much cheaper bought in trays of 16!
