Off "Tomato Casual" a forum :
"Cats, in particular, can have extremely adverse
reactions to tomato ingestion, and so, please keep
tomatoes away from your kitties!"

Didn't look into it much but IIRC Tomatoes are in the nightshade family which have some very dangerous plants. At one time tomatoes were considered poison.

I've never seen sardines in water. But my sardines all say King Bla-Bla or something like approved by Queen yada-yada so I figure they don't come from this pond

Maybe you got more choices.

Oh, so you think just because I'm dumb enough to feed my cat canned human tuna that I will automatically feed her tomatoes? I mean, I haven't even THOUGHT of that yet :wink:

I've been buying the sardines in spring water from Walmart Supercenter. Since it's not in oil they should be okay, then? I usually pop open a can once every 2-3 weeks and let all 4 cats go at it as a treat.

To be honest I've for the most part steered away from tuna... any tuna... for my cats because of the things that I've read. Very occasionally they get a few of the freeze-dried tuna flakes, or a tuna-flavored canned catfood flavor, but mostly I'll give them other fish flavors (cod, salmon, trout, and lots of others). I just don't think it's worth the risk. But yea, tuna in oil is even worse than in water. I've read some pretty dire warnings against feeding that.

As a first time cat owner, I think I'd better start making a "toxic list" and putting it on the fridge.

My dogs are like garbage disposals. I swear, one year they ate my daughters entire bag of Halloween candy and lived to tell the tale. My daughter almost didn't though.

Dogs are not cats.

Felix make a cat food with tomatoes in it, I know they're not one of the healthiest brands but I doubt they would make poisonous cat food.

However, I have a new question.

Ever since the Great Tuna Standoff, the cat has not touched a bite of wet food, and sulks. This has been going on for days.

How long are their memories, for crying out loud?

With dogs, you dog-shame them and 10 minutes later everyone is friends again!

But cats seem to act like mean seventh-grade girls!

Will the grudge ever end?
