Hello everyone,

My girlie, Gucci is about 15 months old. She weighs in at about 4 kg, which, according to the vet is a healthy weight - but any heavier and she will be 'tubby' (she's slender but has a tiny bit of flab between the back legs). So the vet said to put her onto LIGHT food, and to carry on feeding her the same amount as i was before. I now feed her

Wetfood Science Diet Light Feline Maintenance Canned Cat Food 3oz
Dryfood Science Diet® Feline Adult Light Cat Food

This is how much she gets in a day:

1/2 tin wetfood in the morning with 10peice dry food.
small handful of dry food at lunch time
1/2 tin wetfood at night

Is this enough? sometimes i get the impression she is hungry, but this is before feeding time, and she always licks the bowl clean. Could she still be hungry?

i dont think she has lost any weight since shes been on the light food.

I tend to leave dried food out during the day so they can graze. I feed them Bozita pouches morning and night and leave Orijon dried down for them to munch on.

Hi - it's hard to tell from the photo but Gucci doesn't look at all overweight to me. The pouches between the legs probably aren't flab, they're quite normal in Bengals because they allow for the extreme stretching they do. Bengals are often quite solid and heavier than other cats - your vet may not see many Bengals so may not be aware of that.

I'm not very good with ounces but my cats have 100gs of wet food each, twice a day and they have dry food down all the time. I think your Gucci is getting less than half of that which doesn't seem very much to me. Maybe others can say how much theirs are getting so you can compare.

Thanks for all the advice! Its exactly what i needed to know

Firstly, you say Science Diet is full of fillers, so does this mean she is getting full off a small amount of food - without getting the nutrition she needs?

I've looked around the larger pet stores and haven't found anything else that is of LIGHT variety. The types you have mentioned Innova EVO and Orijen, Bozita...are these light? I assume these arent full of fillers, so is Gucci less likely to gain weight with these even if i fed her a little more (since after reading the amounts others feed there bengals, i feel i may be starving my baby)

I wasnt aware of the primordial sac between the rear legs, thanks for that! I'm very surprised no vet has ever mentioned this to me, clearly they have little knowledge about the rarer, more exquisite breed!

Also, i think if i left dry food in her bowl for her all day it wouldnt last very long at all.

ginnym yes she gets 1 can (85g) a day - split into 2 meals with some dry food (i feel awful now... am i starving her?) .. it doesnt seem very much at all going by the amount other owners feed their bengals. However i do give her occasional treats or dry food between meals

shes an indoor cat if that makes any difference..

I'm going to hunt for some of the foods that all you wonderful people have mentioned to make sure she is getting exactly what she needs out of her food!
