Hi all,

This is my first post, we have 2 Bengal kittens, nearly 7 months old, they are constantly hungry, we feed them twice a day, full sachet each at each meal and dry biscuits between. We also supplement with a nightly treat of either cooked chicken or beef.
They are both healthy and active and do not look underweight, but they constantly are in the kitchen demanding more food, is this normal? Or do they need more food? They eat the full kitten pouch of food at each meal in one go, no grazing etc. Can anyone offer any advice on amount of food?

Thanks in advance!
Sam

When Quasar was 5-12 months old, he would eat almost a full pound of raw diet daily. He would not eat the dry that we tried to get him to eat.
Your babes probably need everything you are giving them and more!

So I think there are two separate questions here... First question: is it normal for cats who are used to getting people-food treats to then be demanding/expecting those treats every time you go into the kitchen? Answer: definitely yes.

Second question: should your 7 month old bengals be getting more food than you are currently feeding them. Answer: maybe.

You say you are feeding them "dry biscuits" in-between meals. So are they not eating those then? Or are they eating all of those that you put down too? So if what's going on is that you are putting down dry food with the idea that this will fill in the gaps between meals, and they are only nibbling on those, or not eating them at all, then the answer is simple: find another dry food that they love that is also nutritiously acceptable. But if they are devouring also the dry food that you are leaving down, and are STILL hungry, then that's actually kinda weird. Not sure what to say about that.

Welcome to the forum. Your babies are still kittens and growing. Two meals a day is probably not enough for them. I would add another feeding time, especially if you are not keeping dry food out for them to enjoy any time. I have a bengal who is a grazer. He eats every couple of hours. My DSH eats three times a day. Every cat is different, but if they are still hungry, feed them. You will be able to tell when they are gaining too much weight. But, for now, they are growing. Snacks may not be as important, but if your kitties are letting you know they are hungry, please give them some food, even if it may be little less each time.

I was given a 9 year old Bengal from a household where I was renting a room. I initially fed him one 5.5oz can plus some beef heart every day. He would not touch the kibble that was out for the other cats. I bought several brands of higher quality kibble but nothing would work. After a bit I just fed him canned food whenever he asked, and it turns out that he can single-handedly put away TWO 5.5oz cans plus an equal portion of beef heart or other raw every day. we now put out 3 cans a day for a household of three cats.

I have read that Bengals need more protein than other cats (I sometimes buy kitten food for that reason). But I had no idea that they had such a high metabolism requiring that much more food.

It horrifies me to think that in addition to all the stress of moving (my friends acquired him from a shelter) that he was also being stressed by being underfed. Always a bit hungry. Who knew?

It depresses me to look at all those itty bitty 3oz cans and sachets of cat food at the store. Single portions, not even. Barely a snack for my Oberon.

He now has a thin layer of fat on his beautiful muscular body. And his contentment shows.
