It's recommended to buy from a breeder who tests the parents for HCM every year. The kittens won't have been tested and it's up to you whether you do that. More and more breeders are testing their queens/studs for HCM but by no means all of them do. Some will just say there's never been any HCM in any of their lines. It is expensive to test and, as already explained, it has to be done every year so over the lifetime of a breeding cat the cost adds up. In my opinion however, the cost is irrelevant if it means HCM is erradicated from the Bengal breed. Obviously it's up to you whether you limit your search only to HCM testing breeders but I know I would if I got another Bengal.
