We just picked out a kitten yesterday! We can't pick her up for a few weeks, but I am starting to wonder if we should also take her sister? How much more work are two cats than one?

Hey Suzi-

We are new pretty new to the forum and recently got two brothers. From what I've read on the Net and this forum (and in our limited experience), getting two is a no-brainer if the budget allows. In our case, we knew that the cats would be alone all day during the week which was a driving factor in our decision to get two. Our experience has been that having another provides an outlet to burn up all that pent-up energy these little creatures possess. Nothing like chasing "live" prey!

Sure the cost is double (for everything), but seeing those turds shoot themselves through the house, slamming into walls and engaging in some of the craziest cat fights (that always end in some licking and a nap) is worth the price.

Here are some pics of the boys:

One or two, these Bengals are like no other-try surfing the Net or replying to a post on the forum...you learn to type fast or wait until they are asleep.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply! Your little guys are gorgeous :) I cannot wait to bring our little girl (or two) home. I work part time but I do worry about her getting lonely when I'm not here. Plus I love to see them cuddled up together like yours.

Hi,

I have two litter brothers and I would strongly recommend getting two kittens if your budget will stretch that far! Two cats don't cost much more to keep than one in my experience, and given that Bengals are highly intelligent it's probably safer to have two as I dread to think what either of my two boys would get up to if they were on their own

It's highly entertaining to watch them playing together and so much better for them if you're out at work all day.

Let us know what you decide!

Best wishes

Teresa

So, are you both telling me they will be less likely to wreak havoc on the house as a pair?

I am really leaning toward both sisters. My dh thinks we should see how it is with one before getting a second.

I haven't seen any "havoc" yet...the furniture and drapes are a intact. But like most cats, Bengals are curious. Add to that some high-intensity energy and noone to pay with and I imagine your girl will seek to burn off some of that energy on anything she comes across.

I say go for it!

Hi There Suzy,

I'd definitely buy 2 as they really do miss their litter mates when they go to their new homes. I remember when we bought our first Bengal. He kept on looking around for his litter mates and meowing very loudly, SOOO SAD TO SEE
We then contacted the breeder and bought one of his sisters 3 days later. He was so happy to see her. We were completely hooked with them and bought another Bengal 2 weeks later.

Honestly it was great fun watching them play and then layed in a pile on top of one another after a mad hour of chasing.

Still completely crazy about them

Go for it Suzy they'll bring you so much fun :D

Well I can't make any guarantees about two causing less havoc!! My two work as a team (a bit like the velociraptors in Jurassic Park!) but I think there's safety in numbers to be honest....if they have each other to play with they are less likely to look for "opportunities" for mischief :-)

hi

velocoraptors sum it up totally!
i have 5 all around the same age and they all get on like nobodys business but they all tend to stalk me in the dark if i have to get up in the middle of the night!!
i dont see any of them then bam- they are all there! i have one who gets up on a high vent window-about 9 feet up.nothing to jump up to it etc. i do not know how she does it but if i walk past she thinks it is wonderful to jump on my back for loves-team work is the name of the game with these highly intelligent cats!
:D
so go on...........................get another!!!!!!
FG

Get the 2 of them ;-)

I thought I'd get one first, but this means actually more work for you. Because she/he has no-one to play with but you.

I work from home, but I am out 3 days a week during the day. The 2 of them - brother and sister - are best pals and don't like being apart!

I had them spayed/neutered last week and the vet made the mistake to put them in 2 different carriers for waking up in. They meowwwwwed the whole vet surgery down ;-)

They adore each other, fight with each other, cuddle each other and I think it's only the initial cost that is higher...

two always makes more sense than one especialy if bought at the same time causes less stress to there introduction and they feel more secure but do be prepared for the noisy playful mad half hours through the night and make sure you remove all house plants and valuable ornaments lol
