You could always go for a rescue cat(a moggy will do) as your second cat, as long as they are similar ages and you get them at the same time, they'll be firm friends

So glad to see someone ask this. i was wondering the same thing. I'm not sure if i can afford another one, but would hate for her to be lonely. My future bengal is now 5 days old. picking her up mid may, already ridiculously excited.

I agree - if you can't afford 2 bengals, then get a moggy kitten for a playmate - they will also likely grow up together as best buddies.

You will have instant buddies if you get two sisters. That's what I did and they adore each other even though they wrestle and one dominates the other. Adding a second down the road can be tricky.

I have a question. I have a beautiful bengal girl. She is about a year old. I also have 5 shelties. The shelties are older and lazy and she is very bored with them. She actively hunts them to play but they want nothing to do with her. She is also getting very aggressive at night with me. I was thinking of getting another bengal.

So here are my questions:
Does any one else have experience with a year old bengal accepting another cat?
Should the new bengal be a kitten and if so is a girl or boy better?
I do have a chance to get a female litter mate who is also a year old. Is this a good idea to get another female who is a year old? Will she even remember it as her litter mate?

I need some peace in my house and I don't want to add to the chaos.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Every cat is different. However, At 1 year of age you have a very good chance of your Bengal accepting a playmate. Also a very good chance of her accepting the other 1 year old, though your best chance of that (and for real friendship) is to introduce a kitten. She won't remember her as her litter mate (at least in any form of rembrance that we would recognize). In my experience, male or female will not matter.

The breeder who has the 1 year old will take her back if it doesn't work out. The breeder who has the kittens will not take the kitten back if it doesn't work out.

I'm leaning towards the kitten.

How old is the kitten you are considering?

It seems strange that a breeder would not require you to bring the kitten back if things didn't "work out" for you. Our breeder's contract stipulated that we had to give him back to the breeder if we couldn't keep him. This seems more the "norm" for kitten contracts.

If you get the kitten and it doesn't "work out", what would you do?

Please know that things may be chaotic in the beginning when introducing the kitties. This is common and many owners get totally frustrated. Separating the cats in the beginning, swapping scents, and slowly introducing them by feeding them in the general same area -- this all takes time and so many just want to put the kittens together and watch the grooming and butt heading and it doesn't happen. It takes time and patience as the new kitty has to get used to a totally new environment. There is a lot of stress going on with both cats -- the new kitty has invited your current kitty's space. Please read some of the recent posts asking for help with this problem. In the end, everything worked out, but it took weeks. If you're willing to invest the time and work at the kitties' speed, you can have two kitties who love each other.
