Hi guys!
First time poster, long time browser! I am soon to get my first bengal kitten, he's not old enough yet but will hopefully be taking him home mid June after his vet checks and jabs!
To say I am excited about my fur baby would be a understatement!
I am a long term cat owner, as well as my partner, but this will be our first kitten. He has been brought up around moggies and me around pedigree Persians, so we have looked after a wide variety of cats! However, this will be our first bengal. I have done LOADS of research, I am aware that they require a lot of attention and can be little terrors at time! I have already started bengal proofing our home.
I do have a few questions to ask, I want to get everything right!
1. We both work shifts, however one of us is at home the majority of the time. Sometimes he will be left alone for up to 10 hours, but only once or twice a week at maximum. Will he be okay? I know that getting 2 kittens would be ideal, however there is no chance of that happening due to restrictions in our contract with our landlord! I am planning to leave out lots of toys and also set up a camera so I can see what he gets up to when we are out, am I right in guessing that he will be asleep the majority of the time we are out?
2. I was thinking of buying a hammock to stick on our back door so he can see outside into the garden. However, we have 3 or 4 local cats who like to roam our garden. Will this stress him out? I note that this can cause a cat to spray due to being unable to protect his territory, and the last thing I want is to cause him unnecessary upset
3. I know that Bengals are playful, exciting and full of energy. I also know they are very affectionate however are not lap cats. I do not expect my little man to want to sit on my lap, however would love it if he sat near my head/feet/legs of an evening. What are the chances of this happening?
4. He will be an indoor cat due to living near a very busy main road and opposite a school. What are the chances of him running away in the summer when the back door into the garden is open? Will I be able to open windows? How desperate will he be to get out?
Thanks everyone for reading my very long post! I have attached some photos of my little man.
We are thinking of calling him Link but are still debating his pedigree name (I'm thinking Lord Lincoln Fontegue
)
Take care everyone.
