SO I should have been collecting the newest member of our family on Friday, but to cut a long story short, the kitten is dead & I'm awaiting the return of my deposit....

We have 2 daughters (4 & 9) who are obviously devastated. Having been through the process of choosing, naming and waiting patiently the last 3 weeks for our new kitten it has been such a cruel twist of fate. This is amplified by the fact the kitten was to fill the void left by our recently deceased 14yr old super moggy.

I am currently looking for another pet quality male kitten, ready ASAP, but understandably once bitten twice shy! Does anyone have any recommendations of good, honest breeders, with kittens ready now(ish) & preferably within an hour or so drive of J38 M6?

I've seen some advertised in the Manchester/Stockport area. Just couldn't handle any more disappointment at the moment.

First of all, welcome to the forum. I am so very sorry to hear about your kitten. What on earth happened? You're obviously in the UK so maybe some of our members from there can point you in the right direction. Once you find another breeder, please take the time to visit the facility and see the kittens for yourself (or at least one of the parents). You want a breeder who socializes the kittens in with their families. Many breeders have all their kittens spoken for immediately. Do you definitely have your heart set on a bengal kitten? Or a bengal, period? I can understand how devastating this would be to lose a kitten. I hope someone else on here can help you out.

Thank you. Apparently the kitten escaped & got in with the family dog which had just had puppies. I have received my deposit back, but the more I think of it, the more I think we've had a lucky escape. I did visit & saw the mother etc. but at the time the breeder kept saying how he was so well marked she could get more for him.....I can't help but wonder if that's what actually happened :-/

We already have 2 older lady moggies, so thought a little boy would be the best option as hopefully they will detest him less than they would a girl, or adult cat. The kids are set on a kitten, and we have been putting off getting one until we had a 'vacancy' arise, which sadly happened a few weeks ago. The passing of our old cat has left a big void, and it will take some filling, he was such a big character - hoping that a bengal will be up to the job :-)

We are hoping to see another kitten on Sunday, fingers crossed we have better luck with this one!

My advice: take a step back, take a deep breath, and don't do anything overly impulsive. The worst thing you could do right now is compound your bad luck with making a bad decision about your next cat. I'd remove the "ASAP" from your search and do it right. If anything use your experiences from your prior search (minus the unfortunate end) to do it better.

Think Glitterglam bengals are Peterborough which would only be hour and a half ish?. They have a very good reputation and are a proper outfit. Google them, have a look but as Brian says, don't rush into anything. How awful for the poor little kitten

I can only imagine the heartbreak your family is going through -- losing one of your cats and then a potential kitten! You do need to make sure that all bases are covered with the next one! It's possible your breeder lied to you if someone came by with more money than she had asked from you! At any rate, cross her off your list and find a great, reputable breeder. Know that your older kitties are not going to want to have anything to do with a new kitten! They will not have the energy to deal with a highly energetic bengal kitten. This may not be a match in heaven as kittens want to attack everything, including older cats. Are you sure you want to go the kitten route? I know it seems the logical thing to replace a cat, but ..... I have enough problems with the one bengal I have. Another cat and I'd be in the nut house!

Thanks for the replies, as it happens fate has taken a hand & we won't be seeing any kittens this weekend as we are completely cut off by floods! Appleby is our nearest town. :-(

It's always hard introducing kittens to older cats, but at least the older ladies can escape outside to the stables. We have a small holding in the middle of nowhere & plenty of room for each cat to have their own space.

I've spoken again to our girls & they understand that we WILL get a kitten, but it will be the right one when it turns up. And I'm sure it will.

Oh goodness poor you! The weather has been WILD the last few days even down South so I don't envy you further North as I know it's been really bad. Let's hope the breeder did lie and sold the kitten for more money, as what she told you is too horrible to contemplate
I have heard lots of very good things about Glitterglam bengals so I would make the effort and travel a little further to know you are getting a healthy and happy kitten. Good luck with whatever you decide to do
