We bought a Bengal kitten from ruthann in Clinton Township for $700 in December 2014. We had concerns that the 12-14 week old kitten was so small, but we were not familiar with the breed and did not know what to expect. Certainly much smaller than our tabby was at that age. Ruth stated she had no concerns and this was a normal size for a Bengal this age. The kittens also had quite a bit of discharge from their eyes - we were assured they had been to the vet and this was just a cold.

When we got home with little Charlotte, we noticed a large number of fleas on her and also saw evidence of tapeworms. We brought her to the vet right away, and treated the tapeworm and also for a possible blood parasite that is common with flea infestations and eye discharge. She was also very anemic. The vet could not believe her supposed age due to her size (she weighed about 2.5 pounds at the time).

After 21 days of antibiotics, Charlotte is doing great - although she is very skittish now after being force fed medicine twice per day! We are confident that we saved her life - she was quite an expensive rescue kitten!

We contacted Ruth, as we were concerned with the health of the other kittens. She assured us she was getting them treated and was having the flea issue addressed in her house.

We never received TICA registration papers as promised, and Ruth had a lot of excuses for not sending them months after we brought Charlotte home. We thought we might have a chance to pick them up from her when we were in town two weeks ago on vacation, but the timing didn't work out. Ruth then accused us of stealing a litter of kittens from her the night we planned to stop by!

Unfortunately our story with Ruth will end up in the court system. She is unwilling to provide the registration papers as promised in her contract. I have also recently been made aware of other information that suggests that she filed a false police report, as she suddenly has kittens available that are the same age as those that were reported stolen.

Do yourself a favor and don't get involved with Ruth! I would be happy to provide copies of text messages and a link to a YouTube video of our sick kitten to any of you who are tempted by the attractive $500-600 price she is offering. The vet bills will easily double this price, as it certainly did for us!

Well, you probably can file a complaint with any breeding organization she claims to be a member of. They can claim to be a member and not really be one. It is common for a breeder to hold the TICA papers until a cat is spayed or neutered. If your cat has already been altered, then there is no excuse. It's always good to post your experience wherever you can. How on earth can she claim you stole an entire litter of kittens? How would you have access to them? I hope things work out for your in the court system and I especially am happy your bengal is now healthy and happy. A quality breeder would never have a flea problem or allow a kitten to leave knowing it had health issues. A quality breeder would have taken the kitten to the vet and given the treatments so a new owner would get a healthy kitten.

Well, you live and learn and you are doing what you can to warn other potential bengal owners. The vast majority of breeders are great! But there are a few bad apples in every tree.

Enjoy Charlotte!
