I have had some real troubles with kittens and am switching breeders. My first kitten passed at 16 weeks (FIP) thought I was just very unlucky, took the replacement kitten offered and still have that guy at almost 18 months old. I decided to pick up a playmate for him and brought home a beautiful silver boy mid December. Was going great,my cat took him in and they were best friends after 3 days. He suddenly fell ill and passed at around 18-19 weeks old, no definitive cause, but it was believed either some sort of anuerysm, blood clot or dry FIP. i am basically terrified to bring home a young kitten now and my breeder has agreed to refund my money. I am no w looking at a couple options, the top one being a 8.5-9 month old Seal Lynx point who is already neutered and looks like a very sturdy 9 pounds. He is from a different breeder, she was thinking of keeping him to breed, but decided against it and he's available. I am gong to check him out soon. Does anyone think that poses a big issue with trying to introduce a second neutered male who is about 9 months younger than my boy, but close to the same size? Both are used to being around other cats, so it won't be like they were always alone and having a second cat sprung on them for the first time. I also inquired about a couple beuatiful breeders who the lady said she would have spayed if purchased as a pet. They had a baby and are either dramatically calling back or completely shutting their cattery. I guess my main question is, would it be easier to introduce a younger neutered male or a same age to older female or just depend on each individual personality??

Personally I think it depends on each individual. I tend to think with older cats the introduction phase needs to be a little longer/slower, but then there are always exceptions to this rule.

I had him checked over the summer, had a farm cat who passed away from something and had blood work on my Bengal just in case, he had a high titer that came down when another test was done before I brought another cat in. I thought once they fought it off or shed the virus the titer would stay down?? Is it possible his would be high again after it came down?

Possible. Is the cat you brought in after the one that just died? If so it is possible that it had coronavirus and passed it on to you existing cat again.

It would give peace of mind knowing that you were not exposing another kitten to coronavirus.

I may even take in a retired breeder female. I've inquired about one 3 year old seal lynx spotted and one 5.5 year old silver. I like the silver, but I'm not sure I want to put up close to $300 for an almost 6 year old cat. I'd take a male in, but would be worried of them spraying since they were probably neutered so late. Still debating on the 9 month old. If she will work on the price a tad, I'd probably take him. I'd be more comfortable with a 300-350 price on a cat that is already 9 months old and probably not going anywhere anytime soon. May just wait if nothing knocks my socks off. Always see retired breeders and show cats as well as young Bengals in need of rehoming.

Here's the boy I'm looking at. just curious, what would everyone consider a fair price for a 9 month old kitten/cat?? I was thinking more in the 300-350, but the asking price is 450. He is already fixed and has his papers.

To be completely honest. He has cost his breeder far more money than any of the other kittens.

I would think that because people tend to only really want younger kittens, then a fair price is around two thirds to half the price he was when he was a kitten. Bare in mind the cost of neutering.

Did you get your existing cats titre levels for fcov?
