f1bengal savannah cross im looking on a breeders page they are a top breeder they have a kitten for sale 2k would it be a bad choice to get this as a pet only

Not entirely sure what you're asking, could you give a bit more detail? Also can you link to the website you're referring to? I am wondering, how could it be an F1 Bengal/Savannah cross... an F1 would mean one of the parents is a wild cat (Asian Leopard Cat for Bengals, Serval for Savannahs). Unless they mean to say that they crossed an ALC with a Savannah, or a Serval with a Bengal..?

Sorry miss read its a ALC mixed with a F2 Savannah. Will be larger than a F1 Bengal. Would it be a bad choice?

Richeyrich pm'd me the link but doesn't want the breeder's info shared publicly so I'm just going to post pictures and explain what this cross is here.

This is the kitten he's referring to:

On the breeder's website it says that the mom is an F2 Savannah and the dad is an Asian Leopard Cat. So not only would this be an F1, but it's a high percentage F1. It's an absolutely gorgeous looking kitten no doubt, but I would imagine it wouldn't be the cat for a first-time Bengal owner. As many people will tell you, F1s are a lot of work and can sometimes be more of a challenge than your standard SBT Bengal or Savannah. I do, however, wonder why someone would be breeding an F2 Savannah with an ALC, just seems odd. I'm guessing they are trying to produce kittens that have the look of an EG Bengal, with the larger size of the EG Savannah..?

Richeyrich wants to know if buying this kitten would be a bad choice on their part. The reason I wanted to put at least this info here was so that others could give their input as well.

Bad choice for me is what i mean i want a big cat but not the headache of a wild cat i work 120 hrs a week my wife works from home. We live in a 2500 sqft home no kids and a dog.

I live in west texas Spotagious.com is who i have heard alot of good things about and is a short drive for me. i like the Bengal price but like the look of the Savannah i cant see spending 4k on a pet

I'm really trying use as little sarcasm as possible but i'm finding it to be a challenge in this particular case. I would definitely say if you do not want the "headache" of a wild cat... don't get a wild cat. This is what you are dealing with here. It is a wild cat. F4+ are domesticated. it seems pretty straight forward. And socialized incorrectly this could be a disaster. But nevermind that... I would definitely go with a standard Bengal in your case.

As others have said the cat wouldn't be suitable as a pet and would likely end badly for you and the cat. Am i missing something as i don't understand how they can be top breeders (Bengal or Savannah) when they are mixing a savannah with an ALC. I know Bengals and Mau's are used in the Savannah breed but i've never heard of a savannah being crossed with an ALC. You'd be better with a bengal (or a savannah if you prefer the tall slim build), as long as you go above an f4 it's suitable as a pet, there is nothing to say a later generation cat won't look better than an earlier one so i wouldn't bother about the f numbers.

My short answer - yes this is a bad choice for you.

An early generation (EG), needs a lot of love, care and attention, let's not forget about training. You would need to take this cat out for a few walks a day, I would think.

Bengals aren't easy work and defo wouldn't advise for a first time cat owner but if you want a beautiful looking kitty, stick to a bengal and not a mixed hybrid from a hybrid. Who knows what it's temperament will be like, there isn't really anything to match it by.

A Bengal would be the best choice for you if you're looking for a wild looking cat with a good disposition. I also think that a Savannah cat would be a suitable choice as long as it was an F3 and beyond. You can find Savannahs for $2000 if that's the look you really want. My breeder has lovely Bengals and Savannahs as well as EG Bengals. The EG's are beautiful but not nearly as social as later generations so if you're looking to avoid a headache- avoid EG's.

wow its a cross and a mega cross at that, it is going to need some serious 24/7 care with someone who KNOWS how to look after one inside out, certainly not for someone who works 120hour weeks, I wouldnt even say get a kitten if you work that many hours, what about a older rescue?
