I have posted before about this kitten. He was born a frosted silver on Good Friday, and uniquely grew to be a silver with a rosy brown inside his GORGEOUS donut rosettes. Sadly at his 6 week vet check up, they discovered a lung that wasn't functioning properly. In the month following, he did two rounds of antibiotics and more vet checks, xrays, etc. Since then, he has become the biggest kitten in the litter, the most active, the hungriest eater, the most loving and playful kitty. The breeder had told me at first that she didn't feel comfortable selling him due to his defective lung. However as time has passed, and the kitten has seemed to grow and flourish in spite of his defective lung, she has now offered him to me for half the price, if I still want him.

I have never met the kitty, though have been a part of his life since the beginning, and feel like he is a part of our family. But with one working lung, would I be looking at a shortened life with significant medical issues? I guess no one knows tor sure, her vet can't say for sure, she asked.

So...do we bring this lovely but physically defective kitty home? Or let her sell him to one of the other families nearby her that is saying they want him if we don't.

Let me mention too that my current 5 month old Bengal has a heart murmur. My sweet little guy. So I would have two cats with physical issues if I got the silver boy. My husband is blanching at the prospect of the potential medical bills with two cats with health issues over the duration of their lives.

I have pet insurance but i am based in the UK. Be warned that most insurers will not cover pre-existing health concerns.

I will say that you should not bring home a cat with health problems before making sure that your existing cat is in good health. I do remember he had runny, smelly poo that did not clear up after antibiotics but was never tested for TF before commencing raw. Raw feeding can firm up poo but will not cure the problem and it can be passed on to new cats. I urge you to test your existing cat before adding to your house.

I have not tested him as yet for TF because the tunny poo has not returned, knock on wood, and he is on a diet now of raw, Ego wet mixed with boiled chicken, and Taste of the Wild dry. He eats it all. No runny poo for a good while now. :)

Meant to say Evo, not Ego. My tablet changed it!

Yes but i keep saying to you that raw food can, and does, mask runny poo problems (especially TF). You had lots of problems with it before changing food to raw and never tested for TF.

It would be very sad to bring in a kitten with a health problem for it to then develop runny poo as it could be quite serious for the new kitten.

If you dont mind me asking is this the kitten that your husband had a fit because he was tarnished?I think I have seen him on the website and I have to say he is a very unique Bengal! I think the breeder would have told you everything she knows , becase she is a very good breeder and she does stand behind her cats 100 % I would think that would be a big burden though to bring on another sick kitten and possibly have TF in the house! I would be very cautious if I were you! Are you talking about Ozzie?

I don't know who Ozzie is? And my husband didn't have a fit, he was just disappointed at first because it wasn't the colouring he was originally wanting. Also, the breeder does not have any pictures of him on her website. Are you thinking of someone else?

As for the TF possibility, my current kitty was tested and negative. My only question is if they did the correct test, as I have read that there is only one test that accurately finds it.

You have always said that he wasn't tested as the raw stopped the runny poo, when was he tested?

There is only one test that can reliably be sure of and that is by PCR or QPCR method which looks for the DNA of the TF. Anything else is very very unreliable.

Hm! I thought I had posted, but after reading your response on Sat, I called my vet to see what she had tested for in his stool a few weeks ago and TF was included. But I didn't ask her which test she had used.

Here's an interesting new factor - since telling Leo's (my current little guy) breeder about his heart murmur, which was confirmed by a trip up to her own vet last week, she has now just offered me for free a half brother, so I will have a totally healthy Bengal from her.

Hmmmmm.....
