Just wondering if anyone has had a kitten from sunshimmer bengals in the Manchester area?

Hi the only info i can give you is that Southlakes Black Pearl was from where we got our 2 from and they are good breeders.

Hey, i haven't had a kitten from there myself but i took a look at their website and it looks pretty good. They have beautiful examples of the breed and their description of receiving kittens at 13 weeks with all vaccinations / microchipped and neutered sounds very good.

They also test for PK Def which is also very important. The only thing i would say is that there is no mention of whether or not they do HCM screenings on their breeding cats so you may just want to ask them about that as it can be quite a problem within Bengal cats.

Also, if you can, just go and visit them and have a look around. See if you are happy with the way the cats are kept & brought up, sounds like the kittens are all brought up in the home which is a good sign though For me one of the most important things was that i had a good relationship with the breeder and felt confident that i could always contact her should i need help and that can only really be confirmed by having a good chat with them! Just a word about HCM...

Just because a breeder doesn't screen don't rule them out....a breeder might be screening because they have high risk lines, or a breeder may not be screening for certain reasons - as long as whoever you contact is aware of HCM and willing to chat with you the pro's and con's and speak about their pedigree's with knowledge on the subject THAT is a very important thing also.

Yes but the whole picture is just as important - HCM does not make the cat, an overall picture is much more important. You wouldnt buy a poorly socialised Kitten from screened parents bought up in dirty conditions covered in fleas would you.
HCM should NOT be the only consideration in purchasing a kitten - its the whole package, and abit of common sense THAT is what I am saying.

Southlakes Bengals are brilliant, I think they may have a little boy available, a silver male which we were going to get but unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances we couldn't. I do recommend them, the lady there is absolutely lovely and is an amazing breeder. I have been to the house to see the environment and have to say they have everything they could possibly need and more!

I would say that I wouldnt rule out a breeder that doesnt test for HCM! MY reason behind this is I found out last week that after 6 years of breeding the sire of BB's father has HCM! SO really you never know! MY breeder test her cats every year and none have came up positive YET!!! I think its important and should be discussed with the breeder! I am now really worried about BB's future and I bought from a tested breeder!

Thank you all for the replies, they've all been very helpful as this is my 1st pedigree cat! They do test for HCM yearly. We went to visit and met the kittens and both their parents, instantly fell in love with them all and have put a deposit down on a brown rosetted girl! The adult cats are outside in custom built enclosures and all kittens are inside and get plenty of love and attention! They were also brilliant and gave us all the information they could including a printed leaflet of how best to settle the kitten when we get her. They also said we can contact them at any time and when we get the kitten if we're worried about anything then give them a ring as they might be able to give us some idea as to whats going on! They were absolutely brilliant. Now only have 3 and a half weeks to wait til we get our baby!!!

Yeeey, congratulations!!! Sounds like you chose the perfect breeder in that case, very excited for you!!! Do you have any pictures of your chosen beasty? If you do, it would be lovely to see them! Any ideas on names yet?

When do you get the first piccies? We NEED to see her!

I'm so excited!! Can't wait to be able to bring her home. I've been doing a lot of kitty shopping getting ready to spoil her!! I've got some pics we took when we went to visit but they're slightly blurry as they were taken on a phone and she wouldn't keep still!! Will get some up soon though!
I want to call her Willow and my OH is slowly coming around to it.... he wants to call her kitty!
I have a feeling they'll be the longest 3 1/2 weeks of my life!!

Congrats on your new baby it sounds like you found a good breeder and that is a GREAT thing!!! I have to say I am loving the name Willow!!! Just love, forget what OH has to say Its a nice cute name for a little kitty but a sophisticated elegant name for a queen!!! Love it and cant wait to see pics!!!!!!!!
