We put a deposit down on a newborn 5 weeks ago. He was a light frosted silver with stunning donut rosettes at birth! In the recent pics the breeder sent us, he seems to be tarnishing, but mostly only inside the rosettes. So a silver base with a warm glow inside the circles. The breeder is unsure how he will turn out, if he will continue to warm up, or if the tinting will fade out and he will go back to the untarnished silver look he had for his first few weeks.

Although the silver with reddish tinted rosette centers might be unique, my husband is dead set on a cool toned silver kitty, without any tarnish.

What should we do?

What is the likely development of a kitten with these colours at this age?

In this pic the mother looks a bit tarnished too, but I think it is the flash. I have seen many pics of her without any tarnish anywhere.

Well, there's really no way to tell how a kitten will develop but I can tell you that your baby is going to be beautiful. Misty Moonlight is very much silver and I've seen her other pics and you're right, she doesn't have any tarnish. Thor, however, is very red in person. Yep, I recognized the pics because Thor is my Romeo's father. Your kitten is going to be amazing. The spots are very big and bold. I've seen several litters out of Thor and they have a lot of wow factor as well as being the sweetest babies. Congrats!

I wonder if he might be a golden - just a thought. It can be produced when mating silver to brown - and that the frosting made it look like he was silver when he isnt - - its just another theory, but difficult to tell from photos I agree.

The breeder checked his undercoat and said he is fully a silver, as far as that goes, but the glow in the rosettes is something she hasn't seen before. We'll watch his development with curiosity that's for sure!

Yes, Romeo is in my siggy and he is the best cat I've ever been owned by- lol. My breeder co-owns Thor. I've never seen Misty in person since she lives with Judy but I've met Thor and he's a sweetie. I got Romeo in December. I'm getting a brother for him but this one won't be a son of Thor's.

Really you cant tell in the pictures and with him being slightly frosted you never know whats under there. He is a silver for sure but tarnished or not he is beautiful!!!!!!!!!! He is very unique and his markings are outstanding! You just might have a one of a kind cat. My kittens father has a silver background with brown rosettes outlined in black and he is amazing! Unless you're getting the cat for showing purposes does it really matter? It looks pretty good to me and will no doubt grow up to be a loving, mischievous bengal.

I don't understand why people get so hung up on looks if they're not planning on showing, it seems very superficial (not directed at you OP, there are always threads of this nature).

bengals cost a lot of money and for me I want the best that I can afford being where the bengal comes from I know they are paying an arm and leg for the cat! Yes most people that have bengals dont show them but that doesnt mean that when you pay for a show quality cat for a pet that you want a non show quality! I have a pet quality and a show quality that I will be getting soon and I will love them both the same! Although I do think in this case knowing where the cat is coming from it will be a beautiful cat tarnished or not!As you can see on my pic my girl bengal is not show quality but she is still beautiful IMO and she is the best! But if you pay 2000 dollars for a cat even though you dont want to show you should still get what could be a show cat.Yes it is superficial but people are like that when you get a cat that you pay a lot of money for you want it to be a head turner!!!

I only understand it to a point... there are some things I really like in bengals, and they are sought after things -- BIG doughnut rosettes, great contrast, whited tummies.... but if someone offered me a bengal kitten that did not meet those standards, I'd take it. I'm not really keen on spending heaps more money just for things like that, either.

Thats true as you can see my first bengal is not show quality at all. She wins my heart and that is what matters to me! But the only reason I am even able to get another is because my breeder gives a HUGE discount if you buy another from her and I want one with big rosettes like their Daddy! Plus I will have another baby to keep my kitten happy! But I would pay more for something I prefer if i were to breed and or show!
