Hey everyone I'm a first time poster to the forum so I hope I've placed my topic In the correct area I was hoping some Bengal owners may be able to help me find out If a Bengal Cat would be the right breed for me, I'm legally blind & suffer from Epilepsy (Controlled by medications) & Fibromyalgia, However I do live on my own & I work from home (Part Time) I am trying to get the Savannah Cat made a legal breed here In Australia because at the moment the government has banned the breed because of the lying anti-cat lobby was saying that these cats are big & dangerous which is further from the truth from the research I've done. During my research I came across the Bengal breed of cat & this hybrid breed of cat is actually legal here so I was hoping some disabled Bengal Cat owners might like to share their stories of owning Bengal Cat although my heart will always be with the Savannah sneaking this breed Into Australia would mean I'm breaking the law which I don't want to do so the Bengal is the next cat I'd like to own.

I'd also like to know are there black Bengal Cats because I love black cats.

There are melanistic bengals, that are black with ghosted patterns. Very good looking cats.

As for having bengals whilst having a disability that is something I have no experience of.
All I would say is they have very high energy levels, so you'd need to be able to address this, or get 2 so they could wear each other out.

I am an Aussie too and I didn't realise Savannah's were banned, that just seems ridiculous (but not surprising given the Nanny State Country we live in!!)

I'm not sure how common melanstics are here in Australia, I only discovered them via this forum. Whatever you do just make sure you do your research when finding a breeder and choosing kittens. There's a lot of really really good advice on this forum about what questions to ask and what to look out for. Don't settle for just any old kitten coz it looks cute, as there are a lot of issues that can come up later on.
