I am new to the bengal world, and I pick up my very first baby on May 12th. I know what appearances I like within the breed, but I was curious as to what is considered desirable. For example, I have seen some bengals with small closed spots as opposed to the open rosettes, is one 'better' than the other? I have heard that in marble bengals it is undesirable to have a 'bulls eye' pattern, but are there any other patterns/appearances that are considered to be of a 'lower quiality'? I appreciate any help in my continuing education of these beautiful animals! Thanks

A ticked coat is considered undesirable. The trend is towards the open rosette but small closed spots are pretty, too. I've also noticed some breeders striving for no rib stripes and larger rosettes with a lot of acreage between the spots.

He is so beautiful and whether he's a good choice or not depends on what you're looking for. In choosing Romeo, I was looking for a loving companion not a show cat. I try not to focus too much on breed standards but rather, on what I personally find to be desirable traits.

ETA: Echoplexia, your baby is so adorable! He reminds me of my Romeo's littermates.

The bengal breed is still very subjective...

I much prefer type over pattern - ie I would rather have a cat that looked like a wild cat with a more ALC like coat then a cat that looks like a moggie but with a flashy coat.

Personally for me I really dislike indented profiles, bat like big ears, short stocky bodies, weak chins etc
