Harrods have always had a 'Pet Kingdom' but recently (in last 4 years) have a bigger department. They don't always sell bengals. The kittens (and puppies) vary. I have never seen bengals there before usually Siamese, British Shorthair and various long haired breeds. I used to live near by as a student nurse and would go every week to look at the kittens because i missed my own cat. They used to close areas at certain times of the day and would get the babies out for excercise etc...
Whilst i don't condone it at all. The kittens are never sold before 13 weeks old. They were (not sure what they do now) not kept there over night. Where they are kept is quite big. Larger than any shelter cage/pet shop cage and some kitten pens. The areas are reinforced glass and i thought you could not reach it to bang/tap etc (could be wrong). I have seen kittens kept in worse surroundings in, what should be, more reputable, places
It still makes me sad to see them in there but whenever i've been the kittens are usually bouncing around seemingly happy.
I saw kittens in a pet shop near me a few months ago. The cage was around 4 feet square. There were 6 kittens in there, 1 bed, 1 small litter tray and a couple of balls. I asked the shop keeper how old they were to be told that they are 6 weeks old. I was very shocked and upset. I called RSPCA and Cats protection who both told me that they couldn't do anything. They said that as long as they are not kept in the cage for more than a certain amount of hours then it was okay. They need a licence to sell them, that's all that is required i think.
