Breeder Expectations....

Sad isnt it really that we all know there will be people who do do things like that - its not them that will take the fallout for an ill kitten it will be the owner who then has to pick up the pieces makes me really sad :cry:

Obviously there are alot of great breeders who will always support their kitten buyers - but then they are probably the ones who are doing the test AND being honest with the results.

I totally agree that anyone selling a breeder kitten should screen it if im perfectly honest I think for the amount of money they cost a test costing £30 really isnt much to ask for to ensure you start off on the right footing with a cat in your programme. ...but like you say it would be beneficial to re test also.

I must admit that if I ever get another Bengal, I would insist on seeing the full pedigree before I made any decision. If a breeder doesn't like that, then that would tell me not to buy from them.

I am very suspicious of the breeders who ask for a non refundable deposit to reserve a kitten before you have been to visit. I have visited breeders who have great website and then very poor standards of hygiene and care. I would never put a deposit on a kitten if I hadn't first visited the breeder. Some even have paypal on their websites. I also don't like a lot of over fussy rules that the buyer is expected to adhere to even though the breeder is not clear about what screening they are doing.

Can you let us know what you would look for in the pedigree cert?

Well, HCM would be one big thing to look in the pedigree for, as well as copious amounts of inbreeding.
