Hello, I have a 7 year old neutered male Bengal, who has recently lost his brother.
We are getting him a Bengal kitten for company, but don't know whether to go for a male or female. He is a playful energetic, fun cat, but always had to play second fiddle to his (huge) brother.
We feel that he may have more fun with another male, but are concerned about him being dominated by the newcomer.
How would a female interact with him compared to a male?
Any advice/input would be gratefully received.

I always find that girls are more dominantand rule the roost! plus he can lay down the law when his new brother arrives!

Chances of a good outcome are quite high introducing a kitten, although you have to be prepared for a kitten growing up and wanting to then take over.

There is no way to determine the outcome, it is simply a case of get one and try. Personally I would go for another male, there seems to be more reports that neutered females are bossy and territorial than neutered males.

i would go for a boy personally, my female was ok coming into my home and accepted my resident male but the 2 males ive brought in since, she is a bitch with, all the boys get on great x

I guess I need to stand up for female felines . I've had very good luck with them. My two female bengals welcomed Neytiri (female kitten) with very few issues. Now as they are all coming up on adulthood they still get along very very well. My two previous cats were both female moggies, and they lived very peacefully together with very little drama. Also, we read all the time in the forum about owners pulling out their hair because their cats start urinating all over the place because of some little change in the household. In my experience, males seem much more prone to that sort of thing.

Also as another datapoint, one of the popular cat behavior books that I was reading earlier this year mentioned that basically female cats tend to be easier in introductions (either as a newcomer or as the resident cat) in her opinion/experience. Go on! Get a female
