a couple weeks ago forest (our DSH) had a froggy meow so we took him to the vet and she couldnt find anything wrong with him as far as she could tell, thankfully no worms. so she said its probably a hair ball and to switch to hair ball prevention food and a couple days later we found a few hair balls in a row and his meow was back to normal. hope that kinda helps

The exact same thing happened when we brought a new bengal kitten into our house. Our 3 year old bengal lost her (usually very chatty voice). She became very withdrawn and growly and we thought it was because she was threatened by the new kitten.

We took her to the vets and it turned out that she had got tonsillitis. The vet gave her an injection (of antibiotics I assume) and she was a lot better within three days or so.

Perhaps the 'threat' of a new kitten reduces the cats immune system and that is why they get ill? imho

I find it very interesting that this has happened to other cats too. Thanks for posting this thread.

My 2 year old silver spot, Ruby, has lost her voice today, she is happy, eating well, running around like mad but it's like the volume has been turned down
If nothing changes by the weekend I'll take her to the vets,

Anytime, and I mean ANYTIME, your cat's behavior changes suddenly, a trip to the vet is required if things have not improved in 24 hours! You don't waste any time. Your kitty can't tell you what is wrong and you don't know if it is something serious and you do not want to take any chances.
