Welcome to our forum. Brian gave you great advice (as he always does). It can be extremely dangerous for a cat to swallow anything he shouldn't. Thread especially as it can get caught in the digestive tract and disrupt the flow of food and nutrients, thus requiring emergency surgery (very expensive) to remove the item. You are fortunate you discovered this before something happened. Did Tiger do this with the previous owner? If not, this could be something he started due to the change in environment. If he had this issue with the previous owner (your friend), you should have been told about it, just to prepare you.

At least you have removed the situation and need to just keep an eye on him so he doesn't go to something else. My bengal has Pica as well. He loves to lick plastic bags. He doesn't eat them, just licks them to death. I have to cut the ties off to make sure he doesn't strangle himself and watch him carefully until he's had his fill.

There is nothing "cute" about a cat eating something it shouldn't. A member here was hysterical when her bengal ate a plastic bag and she was on pins and needles until it all finally came out the other end (in pieces) within 48 hours. It is extremely dangerous to a cat.

I've found that it's really hard to keep a determined cat away from cloth things. I have one that likes to steal socks and scarfs, but she isn't eating them at least.

The pica could be caused by anxiety, so trying Feliway or similar product may help. Also, matatabi sticks are a good chew toy and may distract him for a while.

Find some sort of smell based deterrent to avoid complications, threads do not sound like a great thing for cats to eat.
If this helps, I don't know whether mine has Pica... I think she just wants to get my attention or to punish me for ignoring her while I work... but she eats anything that has a crinkly plastic surrounding it (she lickts it to distraction and then tries to eat it). She also hunts down plasticky post-it bookmarks, the small ones, she smells them from far away - must be the glue - and digs in the library and pushes books out of the way to reach at them. My solution: got citronella essential oil and put some drops in pieces of fabric which I have then left on the areas she likes to eat from. Has worked a treat.
Now my study room stinks of citronella.
Hate it, but she hates it more.

*** caveat: in case the oil has phenols or something dangerous for kitties - I checked all over before using this deterrent - just make sure the cat will not be licking or ingesting this. One site recommended it (https://www.vetinfo.com/using-citronell ... llent.html ) but my approach is to just add a couple of drops in a small rag and put it inside a small burlap bag which I leave on the relevant area of the shelf. That way can only smell it and not ingest anything.

Must be hard working in an area that smells bad enough to keep the cat out. LOL. Thing is we simply have to watch our cats at all times -- they are just like toddlers who get into everything. Raiden licks holes in the plastic bags but has never ingested any. Once he has a bag completely licked, he is looking for another one. I keep them in a cabinet up high, so I'm the one who decides when he gets one.
