Is she used to spending time alone while you are gone at work etc.? If so, she might do OK with visits by your mom. If not, she might like full time human company at your mom's house. You might want a trial visit to your mom's house... if you can stand the yowling during the car ride.

In either case, be prepared for some serious separation anxiety. Shredded toilet paper, chewed up shoes, etc. You might look into pheromone Calming Collars and Feliway diffusers to take the edge off for her.

Twice a day visits in her own home by someone you trust is a really good option. I would be really reluctant to send my cat(s) off to someone else's home while I'm gone, for a bunch of reasons. It also solves the problem of having someone looking in on your home while you are gone. That'd definitely be my choice.

That was my first option; the house she goes to is my parents BUT she is not familiar with it so I felt like being a tad bit lonely in her home is better than a strange home for 4 days. I feel she would be super confused about that transition. Thank you for your input

I sort of cringe when I see "vacation time." While I think it would be best for your kitty to remain her her current environment, I also read posts daily on lost and found pet pages where a cat has escaped either her home when the caretaker comes in or gets away from the caretaker's house and is now in a totally unfamiliar area. Hopefully, your girl is comfortable with your mom. If not, then your mom needs to visit a lot before you leave.

Cats have no perception of time. Your girl won't know if you were gone for a day, a week, or a month. She will just know that her schedule has been turned upside down. She will probably be mad at you when you get home. Separation anxiety in cats is real, so be prepared. Make sure your mom sends you pictures each day.

Unfortunately, I board Raiden at the vet when I have to go out of town. I have a trusted pet sitter, but Raiden is at the door as soon as he hears something and is good at running out and I would not want her trying t chase him down considering she has a full schedule for caring for all the pets. At least at the vet, he has a 3-story condo in a very large cage and then there is a door to the main cat room, so the chance of his escaping from there is next to zero. It may not be what he prefers, but I would like to enjoy a vacation and not have to worry about him as much.

On the other hand ... there are owners who never go anywhere without their cat, so the cat goes with them. You have to have a very special cat who loves to travel and behaves.

The important thing is that you have a nice, relaxing, peaceful vacation.

I think I am more stressed out even planning to leave for four days, I absolutely hate leaving my baby girl at home alone. She does great with my mom and my father and I also have an employee that will come each day so she will get three visits every single day and some playtime. I always feel guilty leaving her;( sniff sniff.

There may be other decent alternatives. Around here, over the last decade there have sprung up several high end boarding sorts of places. These places offer relatively large living spaces for cats, with amenities like cat trees, window sills to the outside with views of bird feeders, people will come in and play with your cat, they will give medicine if needed, and have some basic vet-tech sorts of skills, will feed the food you bring in (including raw), will send daily pictures to you etc. Many of them cater exclusively to cats as well. The downside is that obviously they are not cheap, and if you want their services for any of the major Holidays, you may have to book months in advance.

Not a bad option at all. I used these several times when Gaga needed daily medication.

My vet has a cat room with 3-story kitty condos in a very large cage. They also have a room with a tall cat trees and for $3 extra per day, a tech will take your cat to the tree and play with it for 30 minutes. For me, this is a much better alternative than having my bengal escape through the front door when it is opened (which he has done the past two days). You do not want to spend your vacation worrying about your kitty. She will still be spending a lot of time alone while you are gone.

Boarding a pet is always a great idea. Your cat will be kept secure and will have someone near them at all times. The down side is that they will be away from their surroundings for the length of time you are gone and that can initiate some stress issues in your pet.
