I had to fly from Nevada to California and I brought Arii, my 15 week Bengal kitten along. From the moment I put her inside the carrier at 4:30am she starts crying nonstop, more like a high-pitched wailing sound of a bird, completely not cat like. She screamed so loud at the airport that I almost was kicked off my flight and not allowed to board because she was too disruptive. The crew had to pull me aside and talk to me about possibly not being allowed to fly with my cat. Luckily I was allowed on the flight but the entire time from 4:30am 8:30am to when I landed in California to waiting for my luggage pretty much the entire time in confinement she is screaming. She did not stop for even 2 seconds, she did not get quieter, in fact it got worse. When she wants a treat she will meow incessantly. Pretty much when she doesn't get her way she cries, screams, and meows literally nonstop. I shower her with plenty of attention. I left the carrier in the room when I first got her so she could get used to it. She explores it and she likes going into it. I give her plenty of toys and play time. Is there any way to train her to stop crying and meowing in her carrier?

Both of my cats howl constantly in carriers, so I feel your pain!

Bonus, Thomas hisses at the cab driver and rattles the steel bars on his heavy duty carrier with his paws. I keep reassuring nervous cab drivers that he can't get out!

Of course, once they arrive at the vet they are perfect angels

I've tried Feliway, calming collars, Bachs drops, you name it, nothing has worked so far.

Cats do not like carriers, period. I listened to Raiden cry nonstop this morning when I took him to the vet for his annual visit. I can only imagine what it was like at the airport. Mine would have done the same thing. This is why many cats fly in the belly of the plane where nobody can hear them. I don't know there is ever any getting used to a carrier or traveling and I think airplane noise and all the people around can frighten and stress out a cat. I am hoping this was just a one-way trip and you aren't going to have to deal with this on a return flight. I would NEVER fly with my cat. It's driving or nothing, even if it's 3,000 miles. I'm keeping my feet on the ground.

Unfortunately, this week I found out how Thomas would stop yowling in the carrier - when he is too weak to yowl. He had to go to the hospital and tried mightily to yowl at the driver. It came out more like a sad squeak. (See my post in the health section for details.)
